LittleRedFisherman Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 I took my son Landen to the Mayo Ditch yesterday, it's a Ditch that runs through the family farm. This place is what got me started In my love for fishing, even though its basically a Delta drainage ditch, it's a good place to take a kid fishing. I used to float it and catch kentuckys, blugill, sunfish, catfish, "poly cat" channel catfish, and something that was always a treat for me, Bowfin. I made lifelong friends as kid, fishing with neighbors as we got together to head to the Mayo, when I cross it with a tractor even at 37, I still get that feeling every time I cross it, and remember the happy memories. So taking Landen there like my Dad did myself, seems like the the thing to do! It's unique for a Delta Ditch in the fact that when the St. Francis river is up some, it gets feed by "seep water coming up from the ground, at times it will run almost clear like an Ozark Stream. Anyhow I made this little clip, Landen was having some fun in front of the camera. Who knows, we might have another "Brian Wise Kid on here someday.... There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
Ham Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 It's so obvious how much love you have for your son and how much fun you are having with him as he grows up. God Bless you guys. Maybe one of these days I'll get to catch my own first Mayo Ditch perch too. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
ness Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Nice story. It's a good thing to keep the tradition going. He looks like he's having a blast. John
Mitch f Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 We had a smaller ditch on my parents farm called the 8 mile ditch, not quite as big, but enough to occupy my brother and I for endless hours in the summers in Paragould. Lot of Cottonmouths back then! "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
LittleRedFisherman Posted April 27, 2014 Author Posted April 27, 2014 Thanks Guys.. I know the 8 mile ditch Mitch your talking about.. Ham, sounds like a plan, although I called that a perch, it's just a pretty colored up sunfish, the Mayo has always had a lot of those real pretty ones like that. However, I bet you could knock off a few species if you brought your Kayak. There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
