So, with recent succes on the ned-rig (long time observer, first time user this weekend), I have reconsidered the benefits of finess fishing. I keep reading that trick worms are very good with this, either on a shakey head, weightless, T-rigged, or C-rigged. I feel confident in the colors I have recently obtained, but was hoping to hear about "local" success with trick worms, and any tips or tricks you may feel up to sharing :-)

I fish them in the post-spawn into summer. various watermelon colors are my mainstay along with green pumpkin, but under low light conditions I'll throw black or black red flake. I usually T-rig them and fish them on steep chunk rock banks. But they worked c-rigged and on wobble-heads. I don't do much shaky heading, but I'm sure they'll work on a shaky head.

I fish them and a lot of other things very lightly weighted. the past few days I have been fishing a 8" plastic worm called Dead Ringer on 3/16 and1/8 oz slip sinker on 12 lb test line. it is very finesse.type thing at 8 to 10 ft where i have been catching fish.

They work. C rig, shakey head, split shot. Play around with it and see what works. Try wacky rigging it and throw into a spawning pocket.

I have had great success over the years with trick worms, the split shot rig with green pumpkin have taken some very respectable largemouths for me and particularly at lake ozark, most likely as i have spent the last few years up there and not at tablerock

On LOZ I hAve not fished anywhere else in fresh water in about 25 yrs.

First tournament I ever won was on a green pumpkin trick worm on a shakyhead, still one of my favorite shakyhead worms.

Throw it weightless like a fluke during the spawn, put it on a shakeyhead after the spawn and fish it til wintertime. May not catch a lot of big fish using it but you will catch alot of fish if you play the numbers game.

what you do with trick worms can be applied to other worms and plastic baits. I have tried shaky worms on Carolina rigs and did not like it. I like something that will really flutter around in that particular application Believe me I do shake the devil out of that carolina rig. You might think I was snagged to see it. I shake it 3or 4 times then pause let it settle and do it again. It works for me around here.
