Members Riff-Raft Posted May 1, 2014 Members Posted May 1, 2014 I was wondering if anyone has caught a smallmouth over 18 inches in the Lower 24 mile stretch of the Buffalo River from Rush Landing to the confluence of the White River. Has anyone landed a trophy fish? During my 2012 trip I caught a smallmouth that measured 16 3/4 inches and another one during the same trip that measured 16 inches. In 2013 my largest smallmouth was caught between Rush Landing and the White River confluence that measured 15 inches, simultaneously a 4-5 inch sunfish also went after my lure and I caught both fish with one cast. My catch of the year and both were released. During that same trip I know I seen one smallmouth that had to have been 18 inches or slightly larger.
marcusearlt Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 That's an awesome double hook-up right there! I've never caught anything big on the Buffalo, just go there for the scenery. "If people don't occasionally walk away from you shaking their heads, you're doing something wrong." John Gierach
Ham Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 I'm certain that > 18 inch smallmouth live in the last 24 miles. As always in our part of the world, those are special fish. I hope to fish that section of the Buffalo this year. I'll post a photo if I get a BIG fish. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

1969Larson Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 That's cool. I haven't floated that last stretch but was considering it this year. How many nights do you spend on that stretch? We float EXTREMELY slow!
Ham Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 We intend to float it during the fourth week of May. We will be doing the trip with two nights and three full days. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
REDSOXWSCHAMP Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 any body ever fish around steel creek or the ponca access?
Wayne SW/MO Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 There are some fine looking holes in that stretch. I would imagine that the protection it gets from being remote there are some there. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
