dtrs5kprs Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Thanks for the info everyone. I will probably just trailer it for the weekend. The only time that is a problem is if there is a tourney out of there and the parking and ramp get a little stressful. My son navigated the parking lot and ramp last year during a tourney and did a fine job but my wife gets extremely stressed. Put them in the boat and dump it yourself. Problem solved.
Bill Babler Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Yes the launching problems can be a stress, but always remember your loved ones are just doing the best they can, usually from frantic waving and hand signals that they have no idea what you are trying to communicate to them. Anytime you do something very infrequently it always becomes a chore. One solid rule to remember is before trailering your boat, run the trailer into the water far enough to wet the carpeted bunks, and then pull it out. to the point that about 1/3 to 1/2 of the bunks are out of the water. When you run up on this it will lock you in position and stabilize your boat at the correct attitude. Trim up the lower unit and then accelerate up the trailer. If you cannot gain the roller, ask the driver politely to come back an inch or two, until you gain the roller with the front eye on the boat. One of the main problems is getting the trailer in way to deep. I have launched at every ramp on this lake in the past 10 days and none of them require you to even get a shoe lace wet. If you have to have chest waders or scuba gear to launch or load your boat you are messing up. Another quickie is never put a person behind the truck when you are loading or launching. It is extremely dangerous as they can be both hit by the truck and the boat. Launching is really best done alone if you are physically able. Either procedure should take no longer than 3 minutes and this is an old man speaking. Good Luck on your vacation. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
stuartsx5 Posted May 7, 2014 Author Posted May 7, 2014 Yes, I agree that most of my issues come from dry carpet and trailer too deep. I am very patient on the ramp with people backing in my trailer, even my wife. I never scream, yell or wave my hands. If there is an issue I stop the process and go talk it over. It drives me crazy to see men yelling at their wives on the ramp. I can unload pretty quick but I don't get loaded on in three minutes, especially with this new (to me) boat. The ring on the bow is way to low and I have trouble hooking up the winch. In the summertime I just climb in the water to finish off the winch part but that doesn't work too well in cold weather. Poor design on that part. Thanks for the info. Earl Stuart fishin is livin
Jerry Rapp Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 it is sad that our society now will not even allow a boat to be stored overnight in a boat slip without worrying about it. Many stories on here of bad things, and also on BBC. It is not localized.
