kwall
Just wonder you BASS guys why is it almost a sin to keep big bass and ok to keep a big walleye? As for me I practice catch and release in hot oil
Bassmaster21
I'll only keep bass if I really need fish to eat and cant catch any keeper crappie otherwise I release them... That being said I take the side of reasonable keeping is just fine. Any deer hunters out there? Are you going to let that big buck walk so he can reproduce his genes and get bigger? On public land there is not one person that would!! Why? Someone else will shoot him! What I'm trying to get at is that just because you release that big bass doesn't mean the next guy will. Just another way to view it.

J.M.
I have not kept a bass in years, but would if I wanted a mess of fish to eat. A lot of the bass fishermen that thank it is unholy to keep a bass thank it is just fine to find a nesting bass and fish it until they it is caught put in the livewell haul it 15 20 or even 50 miles to try to win a little or lot money then release it and try to tell us it will go ahead and nest as if nothing had happened to it. I have had these same fisherman tell me that if they hook and land a striper they cut it open and throw it back. To each his own I love bass fishing also crappie and striper fishing, I am thankful for the good lakes in our area. Take what you will use (with in the law) and return the rest. DADAKOTA
Be interesting to hear a fisheries biologist take on many of the unsupported opinions in this thread. I bass fish all the time and release them all. My choice. I will tell you that I have filleted many a bass earlier in my life and released them to grease. Now I keep crappie, walleye, and big gills because to me they taste better than the bass did. The feller that caught the bass for Grandma should be applauded for a nice catch and making Grandma's day. It was his choice to keep them and he was within the law.
