JF660R Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 So I've never made the switch from spinning to bait casting. But I've heard good things about the Lew's reels. Main reason I've never switched is, I'm cheap. But $100 with a $20 rebate doesn't seem terrible. Is this deal worth picking up? Is there a better bang for your buck? http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Lews_Speed_Spool_Casting_Reel/descpage-LSP.html https://www.facebook.com/pages/Nocturnal-FabWorx/346443168872812 Like Nocturnal FabWorx on Facebook
Al Agnew Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Lots of anglers use and love Lew's reels. Only reason I haven't tried them is because they weigh a little more than the reels I like.
Evolution Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 If you are in no rush, wait until memorial day weekend when TW has it's memorial day sale and you'll save either 10 or 15% off (most likely 15%) on top of your $20 mail in rebate, plus free shipping over $50. So with 15% off, you'll be getting that reel for $65 after mail in rebate but with TW, you can never limit yourself to just one item.
Quillback Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Never owned a Lew's but the guys who do swear by them. A good reel at that price point. Another reel to check out in your price range is the Daiwa Tatula, supposedly you can find them online for $109. Again, I don't own one, but people who do say they're a great reel for the money.
5bites Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Tackle trap has the Lews for $60. Call them rather than order online.
Kelroy Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 I just picked up a Lazer Pro Speed Spool 10-bearing at cabela's for $80. They had a whole pile of leftys. If you're trying to transition from a spinning reel to a baitcaster, my suggestion is to get a reel with the handle on the same side as your spinning reel. It will seem much more natural than having to learn how to juggle your rod around and reel with the other hand. You don't cast-n-switch with a spinning reel, do you? Why do it with a baitcaster? It's a model LP1SHL and appears to be a Cabela's exclusive.
Mitch f Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 You can buy that reel brand new in box on ebay for $75...I know I just bought 3 more "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Seth Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier is a good reel for $100. They mark them down to $80 pretty often. If your gift card is only for Tacklewarehouse then the Pro Qualifiers aren't an option.
moguy1973 Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 That's a good price, but I'd wait and get a BPS Pro Qualifier when they have them on sale for that price. It's a better reel if you ask me since it has a dual braking system... -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
REDSOXWSCHAMP Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 I haven't fished with a lew's reel before, but i do own a couple of pro qualifiers, and love them. I bought both of them at the outlet store for $60 each
