Al Agnew Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Okay, for some reason the phrase "I could care less" has been cropping up a lot lately on here and elsewhere, and this is a phrase that really offends my logical and grammatical sensibilities. People, if you could care less about something, you're saying that you DO care at least a little about it. If you don't care about it, it's impossible to care less about it. The correct phrase is "I couldn't care less". Geez, get it right! :)

Bird Watcher Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Hey we're just a bunch of hillbillies! Don't go trying to change the Ozarkian language! Actually, the correct terminology has been changed to "hoosiers"

ColdWaterFshr Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I kinda like "I could care less". I know its the incorrect use of the phrase, but it suggests a laziness of caring as if to say, I COULD PROBABLY care less, but I just don't give a durn enough to muster the energy to do so. That takes it to a whole new level of apathy, which is what we're really talking about here . . . and well beyond not actually being ABLE to care less. Did anyone notice the tirade on the guns that got put on lockdown? the word "infrindgement" was a good one. Got all technical on the constitutional references and then couldn't spell INFRINDGEMENT. ahahaha
bfishn Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Yeah, they literally get it wrong every single time, irregardless. Uh-huh... kind of like regardless vs irregardless. :-) Glad you opened the door here Al. And I plead guilty to caring less than I could care (but no more than none). My personal gear-grinder is ell-oh-ell (I refuse to type those letters sequentially and alone). My God, if people actually laughed out loud every time they typed that, a family member would no doubt have them committed. I can't dance like I used to.

I typically only use LOL when I literally LOLed, and in that case I follow it with 'literally or just put on an extra L' Did anyone notice the tirade on the guns that got put on lockdown? the word "infrindgement" was a good one. Last I heard we were on for lunch, but he's picking up reinforcements -- somebody by the name of KC. John
Chief Grey Bear Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Actually DW, we already had a lunch plan before you were involved. But once he found out you wanted to tag along he declined. He doesn't care to meet with you.
