dtrs5kprs Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Wonder if the " THE FEW, THE PROUD, THE ELITE OF COMMON SENSE, THE ONE & ONLY USACOE knows that they have these things called gates over @ the DAM &, if they open them, a little & a little water runs out, a lot & a lot of water runs out ( THERES A CLUE FOR THEM ) that they can control it. " WHAT A NOVEL IDEA " !!!!!!! Amen. The lack of flow on the chart was the second thing I noticed, after the pool trend. Just a little more flow would help. Is this the first real rain event since the new pool level at Bull? Have wondered how that would impact TR's water management.
Pepe Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Wonder if the " THE FEW, THE PROUD, THE ELITE OF COMMON SENSE, THE ONE & ONLY USACOE knows that they have these things called gates over @ the DAM &, if they open them, a little & a little water runs out, a lot & a lot of water runs out ( THERES A CLUE FOR THEM ) that they can control it. " WHAT A NOVEL IDEA " !!!!!!! The local guys don't get to make the call. There is a "Hydrology" department that determines where and when water can be released. I have been told (in meetings where nobody is happy) they prioritize according to their mission. #1 Navigation - so water held waaaay upstream has a potential effect on the Mississippi River and that is part of the equation. #2 Flood Control - Who knows how they decide what gets flooded and what doesn't? #3 Other contractual obligations - a subject unto itself One of our primary businesses is rehabilitation of Tainter Gates like the ones at TR. In fact we rehabbed those gates (about 12-14 years ago?). When working, we need the water level to stay below the level of the temporary bulkhead we use to keep our work area dry. It is very frustrating and expensive when the USACE doesn't release enough water to maintain that level. But the Operations guys are powerless to open the gates. If the dam has power generation capability (as TR does) there is a whole other group who only wants to run water through the sluice gates at the powerhouse. I have worked with the USACE long enough to know I would never want to have a job there.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 9, 2014 Author Root Admin Posted June 9, 2014 So far- 2 days of drizzle instead of the big rain they thought. I like drizzle!
Bill Babler Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 In the last 5 days here at Blue Eye, we have gotten about 3.3 inches. The lake has risen from 915.4 to 917.2 I think it is going to take a bunch for it to get to 920. That prediction of 5 more inches would I think have to come true to push it there. Wonder how much Bull is moving? http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
dtrs5kprs Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Same question here. Guess I could look. Seems like with all the rain upstream on the Mississippi they would have started running water sooner, to try and get ahead/not get in a bind on the lake end of things.
Quillback Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 This rain event sort of fizzled out. I like 917, hopefully it will stay there for a while.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 10, 2014 Author Root Admin Posted June 10, 2014 They've stated to run 2 units at Table Rock Dam so I guess they don't want more than 917 ft in TR. Running 24 hours a day right now.
Alex Heitman Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I was hoping for the 920 personally. I hate fishing deep for them and at 920 there would be plenty of fish to be caught shallow. I can only hope haha
Members gatorbitu Posted June 10, 2014 Members Posted June 10, 2014 Lots of rain in Springfield ( 4 + in. In the last 4 days) still on its way to the rock.
Bill Babler Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Guided on Bull today and it has come up some, but hot much. None of the creeks down there are running in the least. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
