Lancer09 Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 They will destroy us I am afraid. I picked them to be in the top 4 this year. Of course I thought the score line on this game wouldn't be as close either. Impossible - no, but unlikely we will get past them. I think if we hang as tough with belgium as we did with Germany we will be ok and have a chance. Sure belgium is good but they never seem to live up to their potential.
BATCAB27 Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 at least they have a week to prepare. I swear, this thing drags out longer than the NBA playoffs
ollie Posted June 26, 2014 Author Posted June 26, 2014 I don't know Lancer. True what you said about Belgium having a weaker group, but I swear this Cup has been full of all kind of surprises! I had Spain in my top 4 as well when this kicked off now I am down to 3 in that pool.. Germany, Belgium, and Brazil. Now after all these games I think it is still wide open! Got to love sports !! Jerry Rapp Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 no real time clock, the USA loses and celebrates, no replays to see who kicked who, and did I say there is no real time clock. Soccer could be cleaned up very easily, but I guess this is what the world society wants. No specific rules.
Justin Spencer Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 I heard we might have Maradona play against Belgium, if this is true I think we could win the whole thing! Glad we advanced, now we play to win the game. stlfisher Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 SOCCER the only sport that you can be a loser and win what about baseball, hockey, basketball etc? All 7 game series in which teams lose games. We won the group series against Portugal and Ghana...it is not that hard. I get it you don't like soccer you made your point, but let the rest of us who enjoy the sport cheer on our country without calling our team a bunch of losers. Belgium has not looked that impressive in what was probably the weakest group in the entire World Cup. They have lots of talent, but so far they haven't lived up to it IMO. They are not nearly as good as Germany and if we play well we can beat them, but we need to play better than we did against a Germany. Regardless it is quite the accomplishment to get out of the group of death.

Yes there is they are 45 minute halves with added time depending on how much the head official felt was wasted. Ten years ago if someone talked about replays in baseball they would have been bashed on. No one wanted it a while back. Soccer doesn't need cleaned up, It works as is, and it's a great game that we just haven't paid attention too.

I never said I didn't like soccer, i just don't think it is that important that it has to clog up every espn channel. and I didn't call our team a bunch of losers.

Football "worked" without instant replay. Baseball has alot of things that need to change in my opinion but too many good ole boys in charge. The NFL makes rule changes every year, hopefully soon we won't have to watch that silly extra point kick anymore. Soccer doesn't need an overhaul by any means, just a little tweak here and there.

My apologies if I misunderstand your original post. I would say the USA did play a series against Portugal, Ghana, and Germany and the two top teams advanced. Anyway, it is probably just splitting hairs. I think the final rounds are on ABC starting in the quarterfinals...so ESPN should be back soon. Go USA.
