Feathers and Fins Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Wow Ness, hate hearing that on your maters mine are on steroids or something. Been pulling about 2pnds on my cherries every 3 to 5 days and both my beefsteak and goliaths are producing 8 to 15 a week right now. But we had no bugs on them. I did lose my cucumbers due to beetle though and Okra is a tad slow to come on. Peppers are the best we have seen in years. We did lose our carrots but that was my fault I planted them amongst the peppers thinking the peppers would be a typical year and not overpower them. Normally it works out great but this year it didn't. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
tippet7 Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Pulled a nice fat ripe tomato, a "better boy" I think my wife said it was. It seemed perfect, no holes, rips, but when I cut it open it was as rotten as a corpse. Any ideas what caused that and why it looked perfect on the outside? You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
tippet7 Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 This is the culprit You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
ness Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 I dunno what happened, tippet7. I do tend to pull my tomatoes before they're ripe -- when they start to turn color -- and let them ripen inside where they're safe and sound. John
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 I struggled with tomatoes for the same reason, but so far the Celebrity's and the one Big Beef, both VFN, and the Big beef is resistant to everything, are doing well. If I can just catch the cut worms if they arrive I should be in good shape. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Quillback Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Speaking of tomatoes - I haven't seen a single hornworm yet this year, usually I'm picking 2-3 a day off my plants. Haven't seen any Japanese beetles either.

Jason R. Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Got a few bigguns so far- I think the biggest is a beefsteak. Also no hornworms yet in Central AR. http://flyinthesouth.com/
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 I think I mentioned before that we have a row of Hibiscus that is a magnet for the Japanese beetles. I did find one on them several weeks ago, but that was it. The mystery for me is not just the fact they didn't make an appearance, but why? Someone knew because the wife started looking for trap after I found the one and none were available? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
rainbow Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 We are having a bumper crop of everything this year. Picked two baskets like this today of tomatoes and cucumbers. Been taking the surplus to the farmers market in our area once a week to sell it.
