Smalliebigs
This forum is very unusual place as it never ceases to amaze me. For anyone considering going to the RiverSmallie/MSA round up, do yourself a favor and go.....getting out of your comfort zone and meeting some of these people you don't know can be very rewarding. I have met two fellas on this forum and normally I really wouldn't seek out new people to hang with or fish with.....but these two guys ..MitchF and HogWally are some of the most quality individuals a man could ever meet. Not only have they both become some of what I consider close friends, the type of friends you would leave your four year old daughter with no questions asked.....They are both quality guys is all I can say and the big bonus is they are both some of the most knowledgeable people when it comes to river fishing and fishing in general that I have ever met. To give you and idea of how cool Aaron or HogWally is, when we were fishing once not too long ago a creek came up in our conversation. I was all reminiscent about fishing the creek in the past and was going on and on about how good the fishing was and how it was a bit of a hostile environment to fish as it was being protected by landowners along the creek very well. HogWally says I can get you in that creek.....my friends own several thousand acres there....your in!!!. This is the sort of thing I'm talking about, not only does HogWally know just about everybody on the watershed we fish he took it upon himself to go contact his friend and introduce me to him so we could access thru his land. Aaron you are the man and I can't thank you enough for your generosity. As I said I have fished this creek in the distant past....."the 90's" and the fishing and size of fish were just something you can only dream of. We met HogWally's friend at his land and did some wading. I went with a dear friend who I am about to embark on our week long float/family/vacation next week with, he's also a forum member MOsmallies. I'm sure he thinks I am a bit of a liar as I hyped this creek up to no end and it just didn't live up to all of my hype. This creek is very protected by the landowners so the fishing pressure seems to be not bad at all. It does dump into a bigger watershed and the lower end gets big water from the river sometimes. This is just my opinion but, I also think creeks like this also get a certain amount of the population of fish from the river?? To me this creek needed a severe flood, one that just scours this creek bed hard and gets some gravel out. This would also let fish get up in there....as I said just my opinion. I know creeks are always changing from year to year for a variety of reasons. we used to have a farm on the Meramec and the Brazil creek ran thru our land. Brazil creek would in some years be holding Smallmouth up to 20 inches.....I caught three out of there bigger than 19 inches and several around 18....then some years most fish were from 8 to 12 inches???? it could be perplexing and would make you dream up theroies of your own. The creek we fished Saturday fished nothing like it did in the past and when stuff like that happens to me I get weird and can't shut up.....I start dreaming up what I think is going on and verbalize it non stop.....so Paul I do apologize. We could have caught as many fish as we would have wanted....we caught several and were able to sight fish, which I absolutely love.....you really get to see some cool fish behavior. We just didn't see any fish the size I had seen or caught in the past. It was still one hell of a kickass little adventure and great tonic for the soul prior to our big week long trip. HogWally I can't thank you enough for the way you treat me and how you went out of your way to get me on this creek.....your one in a million brother Paul I can't wait to see you,Jackie and George on the river..........All of the forks of the Black River here we come!!!! HogWally I owe you!!!!!.....thanks again brother!!!!
