Old plug Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 i used ugly stik from day one and still do. I did not like the feel of the new ones I seen. They were really heavy. They should have kept the Pro Lite line and offered more models and actions.
Sac River Jim Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 the 6' microlite lite action might make a good dock shooting rod if it isnt too short. i watched wally marshall on outdoor channel and he recommends a longer rod
Seth Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 I've shot docks with my 7' light action microlite, but I would prefer to have the medium light for a little bit more backbone.
WHARFRAT Posted June 27, 2014 Author Posted June 27, 2014 Medium Lite is the Ticket for that rod and shooting docks! @lozcrappie Â
Old plug Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 I am all confused by the modern rod action descriptions. So I just went and googled them. I do not understand Lite, ultra lite medium etc because to me it seem to relate mare to the rods strength than the action. I think what WARFRAT is looking for is what they describe as a moderate action in the (as described in the google chartI looked at) of medium strength. I think the outfits like St Croix still build the that way. will cost you a pretty penny though. But your pretty limited on the others.
Sac River Jim Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 falcon has different ratings too. heres a link that might be helpful the classify their rods by action rating and flex ratings http://www.falconrods.com/original.html
RSBreth Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 One tip for anyone buying a rod from Bass Pro - if you are buying a new one in the main store have someone go in back and get one from stock if they have it instead of off the floor. If you you get it off the display racks it may have been the one that the twin sons of Bob and Becky from Ames Iowa were sword fighting with ten minutes before you picked it up. From the outlet store is a gamble, but sometimes you get smokin' deals there.

Sac River Jim Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 one thing i've learned over at the outlet store is to measure the length of the rod i darn near bought a tour KDV rod in there the other day but after Cameron that works behind the reel repair counter measured it it was an inch short and had been retipped.
