moguy1973 Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 it is a crankbait, and if you are fishing the right depth, the right depth, and in front of some fish, there will be times that you will catch some fish on it. i seriously doubt, that bass perceive that as a group of shad, but just whatever the main color is. just mho. bo Exactly what I was going to say. Long as the main color is right, a Bass-X is a Jewel is a Nu-Tech.
Members littlejasper Posted July 1, 2014 Members Posted July 1, 2014 Champ, you have obviously not fished a Nu-Tech. If you had, you would not have made that post. Try pulling your Jewell through cedar after cedar and see how long it takes to get your plug knocker out! If you guys haven't checked out the Nu-Tech's, you are missing out.

To the contrary, littlejasper, I have tried the Nu-Tech and found nothing special about it. In fact, the one Donna was sent to try (albeit 3-4 years ago) had a crappy bronze hook in it, a sloppy paint job and a scraggly skirt. I wasn't impressed with anything about it. Looked very homemade and amateur-ish, especially up beside the Bass-X, Jewels and War Eagles that we ordinarily throw. They might be better now but they'd certainly have to be quite a bit improved for us to tie on another one. And before you Nu-Tech "pro staffers" go off like a bunch of 4th of July fireworks on this post, that's MY opinion, to which I am entitled, just as you are entitled to sing the Nu-Tech fight song.

Champ, I bought 10 or so NuTech's over the winter and they are a quality jig. Nice stout Owner hook, nice durable powder coat and they really do come through cover and cedars better than the average jig. I would like to see a hand tied skirt on them myself but that would be the only gripe about the NuTech's. Are they revolutionary? Doubt it as it's still a jig. But they are an improvement over old designs in my opinion which is all that you can ask....always making a better mouse trap for the green and brown fish.

Mitch f Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 When designing a jig, you have to build it around the hook. And if your not a hook manufacturer, you're pretty well stuck with what's out there. The only way to get Owner or Gamakatsu to make a new style is to have a contract that promises you will buy an ungodly amount of hooks from them. I'm pretty sure Nutech was stuck with the closest thing to the ideal hook they could find. They have since come out with extremely good quality hooks. I'm not a pro staffer or have no agenda. Champ188 Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Bo, I understand what you're saying. But I'd suggest that you might explain that to the recipient at the time you send out the sample jig. Otherwise, how are they to know that isn't the top-shelf product? When I receive a sample of something, I naturally presume that it's fully representative of that product.
