moodyfour Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 My Grandfather in-law would wash crawlers and we would take them in water with ice in it. No mess an they were always lively!
powerdive Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Yup. I just put a couple inches of non-chlorinated ice in a bait cooler or coffee can, rinse the crawlers in the lake, and toss 'em into the ice. Keeps 'em lively, and they toughen up and get that nice leathery feel. Doesn't seem to hurt 'em--the leftovers can go right back into the dirt at the end of the day. But I'd still rather pull cranks.
5bites Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 BTW, I want a good jigging spoon bite this year. That is just plain fun. I assume this means they weren't there?
kjackson Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 I'm probably done using crawlers, at least after I finish the box I have in the fridge. I picked up Berkley's Gulp! Spinner Crawlers and caught fish and didn't feel that I was missing fish because they weren't the real thing. While the Gulp crawlers look expensive, I've found that they stay on better than the real thing, especially around spots as those nasty bass seem unable to resist a crawler. On two trips I've used maybe six or so and caught around 20 fish (but only three walleyes). The Gulp version attracts fish even when not moving, so it's not just a matter of the movement. And the best thing is that I don't have to make a special trip to get crawlers on the night before an early trip as the bottle stays in the boat.

Champ188 Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Just looked them up $20.00 ??? wow. There are 21 in a bucket and they're reusable. Doesn't seem so bad.
Ron Burgundy Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 I believe TAnderson use these almost exclusively....maybe he will chime in. Gone but not forgotten Martin Ford
Feathers and Fins Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 20 for 21 aint bad especially if you can catch two or three per bait. I may have to look in to them. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
