Hey guys, I need to hear this. I've owned other brands in the past, but have been loyal to Shimano for the last decade. I simply figured they all got "stickey" after being dunked or in a heavy rain. Seems like after being exposed to rain they never fish the same agin, developing a tightness after a little use. I've seen this in economy rigs up to the stradic line. Are you guys telling me this is a shimano problem exclusively? Does lews make something comparable to a front drag 1000 size? I'm looking for retrieval rate and the casting distance you get from a large diameter spool. Don't want it to hold any more line than a 1000 - they almost take to much 2lb test as it is. Thanks for teaching me.

Ps: Now you're gonna try to tell me there is an improvement over my chosen jig rod lol... :)

Well yeah. The SR series of rods are WAY too slow in my opinion.I'm amazed you're able to feel any bites at all. I've got a SR720. I only throw spoons and inline spinners on it. S-L-O-W. I'd love to try a SJR and see if it is any better.

You're welcome. Lews and Pflueger both make 1000 size reels at various price points. Never had either one bind yet. I'm not a $200 reel guy or a $35 reel guy. Typically spend about $100 + - on a rod and about the same on a reel. You will find a lot of really good choices in that price range. Above, I can't say. Below, Berkley lighnin' rods are way good for the money if you ask me.

Lol Ham. I've got an sjr720 but it's taper is a little to fast for my tasts when it comes to jigs. I really

Like the sr720's -am down to just six of em now after breaking a couple, which reminds me that loomis used to have a much better warranty... Anyhoo, I also use a 6'6" loomis 781 IMX I believe, but can't get away from the 720 due to its light weight. I consider it to be a sensitive rod, but to each his own.

Ps: Been fishing these rods since '99 when the Dudley's showed me this odd little crappie jig lookin' thing :)

I have a GL2 SR720 from back when they had SJR. Nowadays, I don't see the SJR offered anymore. Your SR720's MUST be very different from the one I have. There is simply no way that any human is considering a rod like mine too fast. It is horse and buggy slow.

Which is of course very disappointing to me anyways.

If we e VEr meet JP, bring that too fast SJR 720 and compare it to the SR720 I have. Heck maybe we can do some horse trading.

Lol will do! I'm sure we'll eventually run in to each other on the river! Gonna try to make a couple 2 or 3 day trips over there next month. Got a Taney trip soon, but can't get super excited about it after my last norfork trip... Maybe my old loomis rods are different than the new ones??? Haven't ought one in 10 or 12 years. Who knows :)

I love my loomis rods 4'6" to 6' are my favorites. I prefer the imx and glx but they arent made in all the ultra-lite lengths. SR541 and SR6010 any of the SRs are good just figure out the length you like

The reel is one of the most overlooked things for light line I believe. I have landed more big fish that I shouldnt have because of good quality reels with silky drags. I wouldnt trade my shimano stella for anything in the world...granted thats a reel not in many peoples price range. I love my other Shimanos too and I own most every model low to high end....even though im a fan of the older reels 2008ish or older

All of you guys having issues with shimanos binding up just take the reel apart or take it to a cleaning/repair shop and have them take out the rubber/silicon washer "friction ring" if i remember correctly. It isnt needed for the essential function of the reel. Basically the washer breaks down and becomes gummy......I have had issues with all of my shimano spinning reels binding up but the second I send them in and have that cheap @$$ washer removed the problem is gone FOR GOOD. Its sure a shame that the economical models all the way up to the $700 stella have this stupid design flaw due to a 1 cent part. Shimano knows it is a problem!

If you are around St. Louis my reel repair guy can get your reels fixed and that junky silicon part removed
