Blazerman Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Wow this is really sad. i guess he didn't know a snake will bite when you pick it up? And that if you do want to pick one up, don't pick up a poisonus one. http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/st-charles-man-dies-after-being-bitten-by-copperhead-at/article_3937b4bc-bc33-5966-8ebe-112f0dd0fe0b.html
moguy1973 Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 It's sad, but that there is just plain Darwin at work... -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Riverwhy Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 We had a post on here many months ago about a copperhead snake bite and the majority of posters down played the lethal danger. I think that uneducated mind set is prevalent.
Old plug Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 I do not understand how he let it bite him 4 or 5 times on top of it all.
REDSOXWSCHAMP Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 that is why i have a healthy respect or unhealthy fear for them.
Riverwhy Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 I do not understand how he let it bite him 4 or 5 times on top of it all. They bite very quickly. My dad got bit three times on the hand before he could react and he was not trying to pick it up.
Hog Wally Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 I sat down once on a (copperheadedrattlemoccasin) and he bit my back end luckily he got into my wallet and all it did was scare the bejesus out of me. I wonder why a grown man would pick one up
jdmidwest Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Alcohol? Snakes must be getting more poisonous this year, they are killing people off pretty fast. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 We had a post on here many months ago about a copperhead snake bite and the majority of posters down played the lethal danger. I think that uneducated mind set is prevalent. Given the fact that copperheads are numerous and historically deaths are rare they are not a big danger. Obviously the state parks need to do a better job of educating people. One has to assume this guy had no idea what he was trying to pick up or that he had an allergy to them. The other fellow on the Current had been having problems pointing to the possibility of heart problems and it died of a heart attack, this one from shock, neither of which changes the need to be careful. I don't believe in killing snakes, but if you're going to pick one up you should know two things, what kind it is and that all snakes will bite. A black snake bite is somewhat painful, like a hundred needles at once. Trust me that's true. Picking one up needs to done carefully for the sake of both parties. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
