Coosa Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Anyone been doing any bass fishing anywhere between the dam and mari osa? I will be floating/running this stretch on Sunday. I never really fished the osage much except a few short stretches on the yak. Was just wondering what to expect?
Seth Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 We put in at Tuscumbia and ran up Wednesday. The first spot we stopped produced two good largemouth and a couple little kentuckies so I thought it was going to be a great day. They cranked the water on at the dam and it was ripping pretty good before long and the fishing was tough the rest of the day. My fiance spanked me pretty good throwing a 3" green pumpkin power grub. The weekends are usually more productive for bass since they don't run much water. There are guys who can catch them with the water running, but I haven't figured out how to do it yet personally.
fishinwrench Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Seth, try concentrating on the little micro-eddys along the shoreline that are created by roots, rocks, ect. Hard to beat a Texas rigged 4" tube with a 3/16 weight shoved up its butt. Get in tight to the bank and fish parallel when you can, keeping your line from laying across the faster water. The bigger (obvious) eddys are less productive IMO (or too full of carp). That's all I got.
Seth Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 That's pretty well how I fished but I couldn't get much to happen. I beat the snot out of eddies near area's that I catch fish at when the water is off, but they just didn't produce for me. I've heard from several guys that there are only a few good area's when the water is ripping and apparently I don't know any of them!
Coosa Posted July 14, 2014 Author Posted July 14, 2014 Ended up just putting in at the tavern access. Took the wives along with us so fishing 4 people out of the boat was kind of a pain. Fishing was pretty slow but we ended up catching quite a few spots. Mostly small. 1 good Lm and 3 keeper spots.
Old plug Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 i really like the looks of that area down there but in spite of being out here well over 25 yrs i have never fished it from a boat. If I did I imagine i would be rolling plastics like jigs and worms through all those eddies and any root wads I could find. thats about the way I fished streams years ago.

Fishing was pretty slow but we ended up catching quite a few spots. Mostly small. 1 good Lm and 3 keeper spots. That's a good area. You can usually wear the spots out on just about any rock bank from there to St Thomas and all the way up to Bagnell. There's even a few smallies above Tuscumbia in a few areas, but have yet to catch any that were even keeper size. Lots of good largemouth in that area as well IF they are biting. They haven't been biting near as well as they were for the past month. Earlier in the year, a couple guys brought in 21 pound bags of largemouth but lately it has been in the 10-14 pound range. Whoever can get the largemouth bites usually wins. it's hard to break 10 pounds on kentuckies alone usually.
Coosa Posted July 14, 2014 Author Posted July 14, 2014 Ya our biggest Kentucky wieghted 2.3 lbs. most the rest were only about 8-10"
