Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted July 16, 2014 Root Admin Posted July 16, 2014 I was going to say before I read the posts about GW - I believe being cold or hot has to do with body fat! Let's enjoy this awesome weather and leave GW and politics out of it.
jdmidwest Posted July 17, 2014 Author Posted July 17, 2014 I did bring up the fact that it will surely mess up the fishing. This has been one goofy season this year. But pleasant. Sure is nice driving around with the windows open in the nice fresh low humidity. It could stay like this all year round as far as I am concerned. Till duck season, then it needs to get to the point water almost freezes and I would be good with that. Greasy B Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Yes it's comfortable but screw comfort. The water tempiture dropped 10 degrees in three days and the bite is off. Give me 90 and I'll deal with the sweat. His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. ozark trout fisher Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Honestly, I don't mind getting skunked in this weather. At least from a fly fishing perspective, the topwater bite is about off, but I'm getting plenty of nice bass and 'gills dredging with woollies and anything with marabou. Fishing isn't dead at least where I'm at, but you do have to work somewhat harder than you'd expect this time of year. I hate the heat though, so overall this is a blessing. At least I can fish in the middle of the day this summer, even if I'm just having to dredge for the occasional bass.
jdmidwest Posted July 18, 2014 Author Posted July 18, 2014 I figured as much, those cool nights had to do something to the bass. I was down at Reelfoot the weekend of the 4rh, after the cool down early in the week. Fishing really sucked there. Main pool in lower blue basin was still in the 80's but the shallow water near Kirby pocket was only in the 70's. They completely shut down. I hope the trout are biting on the Spring River this weekend. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
ozark trout fisher Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Fishing was awfully odd this evening. I hit a pond that is ultra-reliable (usually.) Started out fly fishing with a little olive marabou jig around 7:30, went through about everything in the box, and ended up back at the olive marabou about 8:20 with the skunk still intact. After tying the same thing back on, I proceeded to haul in bass and 'gills like a commercial fisherman for 10 minutes. Hook up on nearly every cast. Then it went completely dead until I left a half hour later. That kind of behavior just sort of happens with bass, but when even the panfish get that moody in mid-summer, things are getting weird.
Unimog Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 I hate to blame the weather for my own failure. I'm just going to state that I fished tues and Wednesday at Stockton and could only manage 6-7 fish a day. Couldn't get bit on a crank bait from 4-20'. All fish were on shakey head at bluff walls, drop shot by bridge pilings and jigs on main lake points. Best fish was on a brush pile in 20'. Very tough 2 days.
Coosa Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 My brother hit the huzzah Wednesday and only managed one fish
jdmidwest Posted July 29, 2014 Author Posted July 29, 2014 56 this morning. What a July, about 10 hot days all month. How come they don't fear things when the climate is less than normal in the summer? "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Feathers and Fins Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Was nice this morning till a wake boater came by and caused me to fall tearing the hell out of my leg https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
