Mitch f Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Do most of you prefer salt in your plastics? Pros: Adds weight Adds taste Cons: Sinks when you don't want it to (which may not work on a crawfish claw for example) Makes bait a little less durable if too much "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Guest Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I like them without salt unless its a senko. Thats why I like the Roboworms & Zman stuff. Although different plastics, they both float. Just about everything zoom makes has salt,
Quillback Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I'm a big fan of Zoom plastics and they are pretty salty. I also use Megastrike Megabugs, and they float like they are made of foam, and they work at times really well. Senkos are pretty salty, work well, but are not durable as you mentioned. It's nice to have options.

MOsmallies Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 If I'm wanting something to float up, such as the craw or a shaky head worm, I'd say no salt. Senkos or Flukes or some flipping baits I prefer salt.

Old plug Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Plastics and how they sink is something I have been doing for many years Mitch. I have a box with nothing but hooks and weights in my boat. Everything from tiny split shot to 3/4 oz bell sinkers. There are other things beside the construction of the bait that play into sink rate as well. The type of line your using will effect the sink rate. so will the general depth you are fishing again depending on the line. If I was limited to one setup it would be 1/4 oz on a 12 lb test mono line. That will about work over all. But when you talk about salt effecting the sink rate your getting into finessing. That is mostly my aim even with 12 inch plastic worms.

Guest Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Let's use horny toads as an example. It's primary use is a soft plastic topwater bait. Wouldnt they be easier to keep on the surface without salt?
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I tend to take what appeals to me, with or with out. Some plastics just wouldn't the same without it. Senko's with and Scoundrels without as examples. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
