fishinwrench Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 They should just go ahead and turn it into a Rockbridge fee at the gate, plus charging by the pound. Might be incentive enough to raise a few more toads. Offset the price of that "high dollar fish chow".
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Yea, they aren't as interested in the stream as they are making it a resort setting. It's really filled in all the way down. It's no wonder when you call some place a hole people look at you funny, "Hole, what hole??". They bought most of the hollow above in the late 80's and could have built some small catch dams above to catch the gravel and actually protected the watershed they claimed as the reason, but they didn't and they don't own the rim of the hollow. Now they're cutting trees and digging gravel less than a hundred yards from stream side. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
NoLuck Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Good point NoLuck. I suppose you've noticed that after spending all that money to keep structures away from the stream they are now building 3 new duplex units right across the road. I suppose eventually they will string them all the way to the nature center if the DNR has anything to say about it. Yeah I noticed that Wayne . I guess the got more insurance money from the burnt down cabin than they needed. Enough to rip up about a dozen parking spots for fisherman and build more revenue building cabins. Sooner or later it's gonna be all cabins and sidewalk. Pathetic really. I can think of a hundred other places to put that money other than more cabins.
dnj21 Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Taking my mobility-challenged FIL fishing Saturday. Looking for advice on where to place him and what sort of rig to help him fish. He'll be using an ultra light spinning combo. How was your trip, did he enjoy it? We use the handicap piers briefly so my 3 yr old daughter can "fish" a little like Dad before she gets bored but would vacate immediately if someone needed it. Sidebar, but it is very nice when adults are up there fishing and see us come up. They always step off and go wade so she can fish for a few minutes. I try to thank them for their thoughtfullness, they don't have to do that.
dave potts Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Talking about those new cabins in Zone 1--you should read the article in the July issue of Trout Talk. The article actually quoted the Dept of Natural Resources saying that people have been begging for more things to be built along the stream. What a crock! I'm sure there were tons of people wanting them to rip out the parking places and replace them with a couple of cabins that 99% of the park visitors will never use. I imagine their biggest use will come from a certain guy who resides in Jefferson City and comes to Bennett on a regular basis. What's next for Bennett? My guess are timeshares and maybe a floating casino near the spring.
fishinwrench Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Ahh, so begging is what it takes! Who knew ?!!!!! Is it too late to start begging in the other direction ?
Members Corky 69 Posted August 3, 2014 Members Posted August 3, 2014 Remember back in the late70's and early 80's they started planting trees along the stream for that they go back to Nature! I think the new cabins are total out of place.....They claim Bennett is the only Park that makes them money, so I guess they are throwing out the nature look and trying to bring in more money!
laker67 Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Makes who money would be the answer. I don't receive an annual dividend check, like u do from the coop. Isn't it our tax dollars building and maintaining these money makers? An annual allowance for bonus checks must be eating up any extra monies.
