Members Jim Y Posted July 28, 2014 Members Posted July 28, 2014 This Loc-Alarm looks like a good compliment to the Loc-R-Bar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EsrLYeP230 No the alarm goes off too often when the boat is underway or even at the slip if the boat is in the water and any wave comes by. I had to remove the alarm lock and go with a very heavy duty all weather padlock.
Old plug Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Are all these locker bars constructed like this one???? It really is one is to flimsy to stop a thief. Just remember where there is a will there is a way. I can remember one night at holiday landing On Wappappello Lake when some thieves stole 3. motors off a lighted dock with people camped nearby. The amazing thing was None of them were small. If I recall they were from 40hp to 150 hp. It only took them a short while to do it also. It amazes me to this day.
fishinwrench Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I could snatch a lower unit or an ECM so fast it'd make your head spin. But a complete V4-V6 outboard from a boat either floating or on a hoist??? Oh Hell no! My back is worth way more to me than that. Had to have been a dock builder with a work barge (and a helper) to pull that one off.
Old plug Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 What I was told the next morning was that they just cut it off. I did not get to see the boats thEy had been pulled out.
Mike jones Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Some years back in an Everstart tourney, the night after the first day of competition, some thieves went to a resort in the glaize and untied a bunch of bass boats. They took them out to the middle of the lake and stripped them, putting all the tackle into one of the boats and took off, leaving the stripped boats tied together in the middle of the lake. Lake of the Ozarks has been known for this type of activity for a loooong time! Sad, but true.
SmallyWally Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 So sorry to hear of your misfortune WHARFRAT. They will get theirs one way or another, what goes around comes around. Kindness is the language the blind can see and the deaf can hear.-- Mark Twain
Goggle-Eyed Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Cover wasn't on, I usually leave it off when I'm down for the weekend. It is odd that they took only spinning outfits and a tray or two of trolling baits. Sucks! Now I'm suspicious of everyone. Sounds like kids or younger people that probably don't know how to throw a bait caster and will probably be using the gear not selling it on craigslist to me. I would keep an eye out on the "younger" crowd around the docks. first thing I think of is the kids that I have seen out "jumping" wakes with a little Boston Whaler. I have seen them out and about pretty late... Not sure if you've seen them but they are hard to miss during the day. They treat that whaler just like a jet ski.
WHARFRAT Posted July 30, 2014 Author Posted July 30, 2014 Yeah, I've seen that little boat. Never really paid much attention to it. Hopefully it was an isolated incident, It could have been worse. They could have vandalized the boat, and that would have been bad. Haven't talked to everyone, but there are some pretty serious bass fishermen down there, I don't know if they got hit or not. Seems like they were after higher end spinning equip. Because a lot of people leave their stuff on the dock or inside their uncovered boat and they didn't touch them. Anyway, I'm over it now, just going to be more cautious and not leave anything of value in the boat overnight. @lozcrappie
Old plug Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Goggle-eyed. Have you ever stopped by that big rummage sale they have in Versailles every week ?? I have sen some pretty. fine tackle in there a time or two. There is sooooo much stuff every week I got to wonder where it is all coming from. Some of those. peopl I think are there week after week. On another subject. Have you seen the pictures of the headon that killed those 4 people on new hwy 5 bridge. I think that dump teuck was a 10 ton job. The pickup was completely smashed and unrecognizable from being sandwitched between the boat and the truck. There is also burn marks on the bridge retaining wall. I have seen a car hit buy a train and dragged under some box cars and it was not much worse that that pickup they were driving. You could not tell what kind of vehicle it was.
Bill Babler Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 No the alarm goes off too often when the boat is underway or even at the slip if the boat is in the water and any wave comes by. I had to remove the alarm lock and go with a very heavy duty all weather padlock. You want to see a boat really jacked up, put that bar on. The fiberglass sides tear out of the boat in about 2 seconds flat with any kind of a crowbar. The deal that has been mentioned about the boats being taken and put adrift in the Glaze is correct. I know at least 5 guys that had locker bars on their boats and the gunwales were completely destroyed when they popped out the bar. I also know and I believe this was a top 150 where the boats were in a parking lot and the thief unhooked the winch from the boats that were on the trailers, and put the wench strap and hook around the locker bars and busted the sides right out of the boats. Believe they got several. My last Champion had a locker bar and I wanted to see if it really worked and how long it would take. I whipped the strap off the bow and wrapped it around the bar and hooked it. I put pressure on the bar and I will tell you I could of tore the sides out of the boat in about 30 seconds if I would have torqued the wench a full turn tighter. The locker bar will keep out simi honest people. For thief's it will get your boat ruined. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
