Al Agnew Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Hmmm...sounds more like spawning behavior. Browns are fall spawners and they should be starting to think about it, though it seems a bit early yet.
cwc87 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Not to fire anyone up but the gigging season starts Monday so heads up for the wade fisherman. And I suspect the good trout fishing will decrease just because there numbers will decrease from the Oopps. It's a trout!!
joeD Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Why is it so important to catch trout in the Meramec?
Gavin Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Important? Can't give it that. Scenery isn't much on that stretch and the fishing(trout or bass) is middling at best. Spring down to dry fork needs protection in the winter. Smallies & trout stack up there. Poaching Giggers eat well.
joeD Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 If the MDC stocks my bathtub every year with trout, then, every year I can say that my bathtub is a trout fishery. But don't fish in my bathtub after I eat BBQ brisket for three days straight. That is NOT a brownie hitting on top.
Members Wildbill Posted September 17, 2014 Members Posted September 17, 2014 Why is it so important to catch trout in the Meramec? It's important for me to catch trout here because, they're there for a reason, although hatchery raised fish at least most of them they're trout. Furthermore trout within an hours drive from my location. Although they don't hold the prestige of wild trout in a beautiful graceful flowing 36 degree mountain stream they're fun to catch. They fight hard and hold pirsuint to typical eating behaviors. If anything they are good practice for when you encounter the real Mr. Brown or bow while on you're next trip to the frying pan in Colorado. I don't hate on the Meramec instead I try to embrace the challenge it presents as a feral trout fishery and am thankful to have opportunity to catch and turn loose of some very nice fish there this year. And to the individuals who abuse the area by stabbing fish in the side with an oversized metal pole and ruining what could potentially be an excellent fishery one day for our children's childern you're unethical swine and I wish the worst for you. For those who do within the confinements of law I applaud you're skill.
Members Born to Fish Posted September 17, 2014 Members Posted September 17, 2014 Why is it so important to catch trout in the Meramec? Because there's lots of people who enjoy fishing for them and they pay sales tax and buy trout stamps for the state to provide this fishery. I know lots of wives who ask why is it important to catch any fish?
