Ron Burgundy Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Is that one Pic where you are standing under the Top on Bull Shoals just down from the mouth of Big Creek along that long bluff? Gone but not forgotten Martin Ford
eyeman Posted August 21, 2014 Author Posted August 21, 2014 i really can't remember the names of any creeks, but it was a long curved bluff with timber on bull. as for the lures we use hand tied harnesses in variety of colors, sometime jig/worm combo, and sometimes crankbaits ie hotntots, reefrunners, shadraps, little n's.i fish kansas, okla, missouri, and arkansasfor saugeye and walleyes. my buddy and i are what you would call obsessed with them, we got hooked on it about 8yrs ago and have tried about 8 or so different guides to learn all the tactics.and here i am today with thousands of dollars invested in gear and electronics chasing fish
nathanhooper Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 I hear you. I could see going all out for a fish like this. I love me some walleye. If you like something that well then the money associated with it is gonna come. I have been chasing stripers, but I guess you could say I'm not all that about them because I refuse to buy some of the things that a lot of guys do that chase them. I've invested, but only so much as stuff I can use on other species. Heck, I'd drop a couple grand if in the end I would be pulling in fish, like you show in your photos, on a regular basis. I think the hardest part of any fishing is trying to learn what/where the fish do/like to live. If that makes sense. Lure/bait is just one of those things you can switch up to try different things when your confident the fish are around, but if your not confident in them being around then you can't be confident in your bait. That's how I see things anyways.
eyeman Posted August 22, 2014 Author Posted August 22, 2014 one of the things i have learned is buy the best electronics you can afford . once you learn to use it ,that will be one of your greatest tools
nathanhooper Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 one of the things i have learned is buy the best electronics you can afford . once you learn to use it ,that will be one of your greatest tools I think your right about this. What electronics do you use on your boat? How long did it take for you to get the hang of using them?
eyeman Posted August 22, 2014 Author Posted August 22, 2014 i have lowrance hds10 unit with downscan and structure scan. i live north of tulsa so i can get any service easy because thats where lowrance is located. i also have minnkota 80lb trolling motor with i-pilot . for trolling virtually hands free + i love the spot lock anchor feature w/o disturbing the water to hang over a spot . as for ease of use its not bad. you cant hurt it just play around with it. there is quick reference cards to get you started but it does have more features than i use. i also like to be able to stop the screen movement if something catches my eye so i can stop on it to study it a bit. the side scan is good to be able to find other structure that you pass but are not directly over it so you can mark it and go back over the spot. i intend to get a new 12" then i will use the 10"only for nav. its expesive but very good tools and if i don't get it now i won't be able to afford when i retire.
Tanderson15 Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 I agree with electronics. I have an HDS 8 and 7 on the dash and on the bow. Use 7's for navigation and backups
Feathers and Fins Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Ditto on the sonar units lss ds sss https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
