Ok. After further inspection I started pumping on the dowel on the end of that pump, and it makes a spitting sound , with clear gas visible at the bottom of the stroke. So I'm thinking the pump is it after all

Didn't think to do that yesterday. Just need new pump or fix that one?

Initially I thought yours had the tried and true 4-screw vacuum pump, but without a serial # I wasn't able to verify that.

I did a quick check and I'm not finding a rebuild kit available for your style pump. It may only be sold as an assembly.

NP, let us know if the pump swap cures it.

I'd still do the low vs high speed test just for good measure.

will do! I've had the moter for almost 3 years, and have had no problems till lately, so i'm hoping this is it
