Quillback Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Hmmm, if the Mizzou passing game still stinks by the time they play the Hawgs it could make for an interesting game. Hawgs secondary was ridiculously bad in the Auburn game, but if Mizzou can't take advantage of it....
Feathers and Fins Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 After watching the SEC this week here is how I see it shaping up for the west. Texas A&M is scary looking and seem to be firing on a level that if they stay out of injuries and maintain this level will be in the final 4. 11/1 Auburn looked midlevel in the first quarter but adjusted at the half and only got better possible final 4. 10/2 Ole Miss is going to give people fits and will probably get a bowl game they have a d-line and passing game the run is questionable. 9/3 maybe even 11/1 and final 4 LSU had some major issues and an SEC team will make them pay they got lucky to win that game and will not make final 4 but get a lesser bowl 8/4 Miss State last night just kept getting better and looks like the sleeper team people talked about , Probable good bowl 8/4 Arkansas they might get better as the season progress's and a team who cant pass will be eaten alive by them but the D-secondary sucked 3/9 Bret will have to wait till next year for an SEC Win. Also if he cant get a SEC win by midway through next season he will be FIRED. I really don't think his Northern style will work in the south just to many great coaches and to much power players. I am concerned about this playoff thing, I saw a lot of very promising teams this weekend and some schedules who could put many at 11-1 10-2 and doubt the 4 team playoff works it will have to end up being 8 teams. I just see no way to do it any other way. What happens is 3 SEC schools get voted in? or 2 ACC 2SEC and worse what if either of those happen and a big 10 school has a better record but weeker strength of schedule is why they got left out? https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Quillback Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 I think as long as there is a committee voting on who gets into the playoffs there will be controversy. I don't see any way around it unless they go to some kind of super conference set up with playoffs that lead to a national champion.
Wayne SW/MO Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Anybody else miss the whole MU/KU thang? No! It would be a bad thing for Mizzou now that KU doesen't play real football anymore. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Al Agnew Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 You can usually pick out a couple of teams that really belong in the top 4, and about 4 or 5 that COULD be top 4, so I'm in agreement, there's going to be controversy. But I don't see the committee going with more than one team from a conference no matter what. Nor should they, given that most of the major conferences have conference championships. It can easily be argued that if you lose the conference championship, you're not the best team in the conference and therefore CANNOT end up as the best team in the nation. So although you MIGHT be one of the four best teams in the nation, you don't really deserve to be in a play-off for the national championship. The conference championship should be, to all intents and purposes, a play-in game for the play-offs. Where the big problem is, in my opinion, is that there are five major conferences, plus always one or two possible candidates from minor conferences that go undefeated, and they'll all have an argument for getting in.
Quillback Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Yep it will be interesting and not without controversy. As I understand things, the committee will come out with a top 25 ranking on October 28th, what I don't know is if it will be updated weekly, but I assume it will. So we'll know who the top 4 are and can follow it. I can see that because of this process it will be possible for a conference to get a couple of teams in the top 4. A team that wins it's conference championship but is a 3 loss team, may not be ranked ahead of two teams from a particular conference, one of whom is undefeated and the conference champion and the other has only one loss. What I don't know, but I can see happening, is that the committee may have a weekly "justification" press conference where they explain why they ranked teams as they did. You see that now in the NCAA championship seedings, and I can see that happening in this new process.
Ham Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Is LSU going to be known as DBU or WRU? the secondary remains very strong. A new crop of WR is going to be impressive as well. Kenny Hilliard looks like he'll be the man at running back this year. The young QB showed a lot of progress and I feel much better about that position. They need to tear the screen pass plays out of the playbook though. Those all looked terrible, but it did seem like the RB got tackled withthe ball in the air that was thrown to him. Is that legal on a screen pass? I watched the game and was very happily surprised at the outcome. I really thought they had dug too deep a hole for themselves.
