Members Michael Nichols Posted September 3, 2014 Members Posted September 3, 2014 howdy folks, my name is mike nichols from kansas city. been fly fishing for 20 years or better and tying my own flies for at least 10 years. I was going to wait til my web site was up, but after this past labor day weekend I heard enough folks complaining about having a portable fly tying base, so they could tie flies at the stream.....that I better go ahead to put it out there. I own a granite fabrication company, and have also wanted a portable fly tyiung base. The requirements i had for designing this base, It had to be heavy enough to be stable, but light enough that my chiropractor wouldn't get any more of my hard earned money. another very important element - I wanted all my threads and tools to remain on the base while in transport(unless traveling by air). I made the 1st one for myself with no intent to sell, Since then - because of the response- I have applied for all copyrights and patents. I currently have 2 models for sale. the smallest unit weighs 13 lbs and the larger unit weights 24 lbs. both units are 100% portable with several innovations that make these units so user friendly, even i, humbly had to smile. All of your tools are right at your fingertips. There are 6-8 storage slots for thread bobbins and 6-8 additional storage spaces for additional threads that never have to be removed, unless of course youre tying up. Each unit comes standard with a tablet/smart phone cradle, so you can actually watch a youtube video on how to tie up the fly that youre tying up. If anyone has any questions or wants pictures of either model, please let me know either reach me thru this forum or at epicgranite@gmail.com. I will have an online store up soon, but after hearing so many folks talk about the same issue...... and having a solution to the problem.

jdmidwest Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Looks nice, would be great on a tying bench. But I am with the others, seems to heavy to be portable. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Members Michael Nichols Posted September 3, 2014 Author Members Posted September 3, 2014 I sold one the 13 lb jr to a 72 year old man, just off of a triple by pass surgery. if 13 lbs is to heavy, apologies about your health.
Flysmallie Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Yeah you bunch of pussies! Strange marketing technique, let's see how it works.
Gavin Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 I like the spot for your tablet...but I cant remember the last time I tied a fly on a fishing trip.
fishinwrench Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 I have trashed a few motel rooms. If you knock the hinge pins out of the bathroom door and lay it across the beds it makes a sweet fly tying table. But "streamside/roadside tying"? Noway. I don't wanna play Trout Bum Diary's.
