Guest Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I saw these little gems at cabelas today. I betcha it can be modified to cast on a ML action spinning rod. Those smallmouth of yours might choke it down.
Guest Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Aw Seth, me and Chief are always disagreeing about something or other. We keep each other on our toes. My favorite close to home wading stream has pools that at best are 2-3 feet deep, and lots of pools that are no more than 18 inches deep at the deepest. And before a few meat hogs found out about it, it routinely produced 18-19 inch smallies. Still gives up a few 17 inchers. It's kinda like the one you described...about three miles of really fishable water, a few isolated pools holding fish above there, flows into another creek only slightly larger, and below the confluence there's only about another mile or so of decent habitat before it gets too slow and silty. Its smallmouth population is almost isolated. It's simply amazing how big fish can live in such small water, and find places to hide. Hoglaw this describes your creek to a T. I guarantee you, there are 17-19" bass in your stretch of creek.
LittleRedFisherman Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I have become a huge fan of the old grub, i'd get some 2 to 3 inch ones to add to the arseneal Kyle. They have really produced well for me this year. There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
Seth Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 My fiance has beaten me more than once this summer with this setup. 6'6" M/F Pflueger Pink Lady Trion spinning combo 6# Trilene XL mono 1/8oz jighead with a 3" green pumpkin power grub. I keep those on hand just for her to use, but I am too stubborn to tie one on even when she kicks my butt when I use more conventional bait caster sized baits.
Mitch f Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Yep, a single tail grub you can fish the entire water column "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

Chief Grey Bear Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 My bad for not reading the entire thread. Somehow, I completely missed the link to the second page of posts. I see you changed your tune after you realized you misinterpreted Al's post. Lets timeline this for you Scooter. A cat comes on here and posts looking for info on ULTRALIGHT action. Everyone starts posting to help him, including Al, info that is really not ULTRALIGHT tackle. So I post up some ULTRALIGHT tackle options. Al posts right behind me dismissing everything I just posted while stating it won't work on his waters. Well, the OP didn't ask about Al's waters. He simply asked for info on ULTRALIGHT tackle. So I call him on it. Which is what we do to one another. I call him out, he calls me out. Its nothing personal between us. And as Al says, it keeps us on our toes. Its our way of having a little fun. So don't think I "changed your tune after you realized you misinterpreted Al's post." I still stand 100% behind what I said. Gavin Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I gave my wife some 4" curly tail grubs the day before I asked her out. 12 people on that float. She caught the most and the biggest bass. It certainly does work.
