mhowerton Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Great Pics. Saw a group of about 35 this morning while I was trout fishing. Will try my luck next weekend down here.
Feathers and Fins Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Today was a little better. Saw two groups again, but more birds in each group. Took my 7 year old for his first ever duck hunt and I believe he is hooked. First group came in right in his face and he actually saw the second group for us. My pup is a little young so we have been keeping her in the truck till she is needed. After te first group I had got her out and she retrieved all 5 we knocked down. My dad was going to walk her back to the truck when the second group came in. They had only walked about 20 yards away when we shot and it didn't even phase the pup. She came right back and off she went to retrieve the two we knocked down. All in all another successful morning. That picture is worth a million rounds of ammo. moodyfour Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 I agree 100%. Wouldn't trade the world for this morning!

luckycraft Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I am looking in the forecast as I have a MT hunt in mid october, Calling for snow this wednesday up there. I am a little worried about the ducks. But if the ducks are out of town, i guess geese will be worked over. Good luck to all. Gave the dog a little work, busted 2 doves and she retrieved. she is ready for the season.
Kayser Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Hunted this morning, lots of teal before LST. Had a pair of geese come over about 10 min before sunrise, they left unscathed. Teal wanted to mainly work elsewhere, but we scratched 1 when a group of 4 swung wide. We were covered with woodies, pintails, and other big ducks for most of the day. A black duck even made an appearance in the hole, so that was pretty neat. Not very successful as far as hunts go, but it was one of the better ones I've had. WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
BilletHead Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 One word for this morning." MOSQUITOFEST " Decided to make a run this morning to the duck park. There is some water there seen they had pumped a little last week. Had a plan and took the kayak as I can't carry what I need but can do a short paddle to the hide. Got there and I thought the 59 degrees would be nice. As soon as I opened the truck door the swarm invaded me and the truck inside. I had spray but chose not to use it right away, MISTAKE #1 Slid the loaded kayak into the channel and paddled in the bright moonlight as the swarm followed me. Note the hat was off because I was starting to sweat, MISTAKE # 2. Hitting my mark for the morning I quickly removed my glasses and head light and began to fog my head face and arms, hat too. Than I began to feel for my glasses, MISTAKE #3 be careful where you lay the glasses. Did finally find them in a bush above where I thought I laid them. Then I put on the glasses and they instantly fogged up. Yes I thought it is going to be one of these mornings. Off again go the glasses but into a safer place. Started setting up and a couple of singles buzzed me. Phone rings and the Mrs. is checking on me. What a woman. As she was wishing me luck a big group of twenty wizzes by my face and I thought this is going to get good! LST arrived and nothing but a wood duck now and then. I waited and waited finally in the distance a small group. No close birds all morning. Did hear six shots on the whole place. Sun up over the trees now and I quit. As I pick up the decoys I see four coming towards me. Drop the deeks pick up the gun as the four birds come by, shoot once and drop one. So it wasn't a total loss. Paddling out I see three more bunches and pick out another spot for later on IF it cools back off. Feathers and Fins Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Thursday and Friday look to be very good days without the crowds at the Park. I wouldn't be at it Saturday for all the world. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
JohnP Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Great pics, especially like Moody's pic with the kid and the dog. Sat yesterday evening for a couple hours on Bull and only seen a couple king fishers so decided to dove hunt this morning with a couple buddy's up in Ozark. Managed to get 3 limits between 4 of us so not too bad. Hoping that a few birds move in and stick around next week as i won't be able to take advantage of the cold front this week .
