most of the time when you are having problems with bass blowing up behind your buzzbzit, it is the design o the buzzbait that is causing the problem. if bass missed what they intended to eat that often, they would starve to death. either we make them miss, or they are not fully committed to taking our lure. if you have ever spent a lot of time watching bass feed, when they commit to eating something, they never miss. mike sowders and i used to watch the bass in their aquarium at night after closing hours, and it was very eye opening watching the bass feed.

That might be true sub-surface but I have seen it a million times where a bass misses a shad on the surface and miss the same shad a half a dozen or more times before they get it. Don't know if it is the light distortion near the surface of the water or what but they miss top water baits pretty dang often and it's by no fault of the fisherman. I mean what can you really do different when working a spook in the walk the dog fashion and they miss it? Get sharper hooks?

I had the same problem at Stockton a couple of years ago. Figured out that speed was key in the hook up ratio. The faster I reeled the buzzbait the better the hook up ratio. My theory is they were getting too good of a look at it at the last second. Turning away and getting hooked in the outside of the mouth . Anyhow, the faster I brought it the better they ate it.

Turn your trailer hook around so it faces down (assuming you're not running it over cover). That will help with the ones slapping at it.

Out of curiosity, what tournament goes out of Big M?

Caught 3 keeper LM and 2 keeper SM on the war eagle screaming eagle blade on Saturday in the KC area. Nothing big, but they measured. Almost hit the bank with the bait then ran it 3 to 5 ft deep through the trees. Did catch a few shorts slow rolling it down to about 10 to 15 feet. Cold cloudy north wind day up until about lunch time. Tried TW and couldn't get any surface action.

Didn't try the buzzer, they may have liked it based on the good reports recently.

Sorry about the hook up problems Quill. The only thing I could think of is the retrieve speed either too slow or too fast?

So I guess I was asking if I should change anything with my setup. Just read the report on cow creek and it was the same problem. I mean they where eating the bait just would come off.

Fishingaddiction, maybe that could help, changing retrieve speed, I did change up a bit on the retrieve every once in a while, but for the most part, ran it pretty fast.
