Depends on when and where? Time of year? water temps? type of water? Lake, river, pond? Largemouth or smallmouth?

Too many variables. Just like if you asked a tournament bass fisherman or if you asked a full blown trout fisherman, there is no one answer.

I probably catch the most on a gurgler. But that doesn't necessarily make it the best it's just what I throw a lot.

The simple answer; fish with something that resembles what they are eating at that time.

Peak popper season for green bass is right around the corner. Something BIG, Yellow and loud tops my list for Fall stillwater bass-bugging.

That and a Dahlberg Flashdancer about 4-5" long (white/gold) or (chart./silver).

Smallmouth streams require entirely different fly's, rods, and tactics IMO.

It's hard to be top water when it's working. It has always seemed to me that LM like a lot of action and noise, but SM tend to like the more subtle offer. Not written in stone though.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
