DaddyO Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 That's a good looking fly, mic. What's the recipe? DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.
mic Posted September 30, 2014 Author Posted September 30, 2014 That's a good looking fly, mic. What's the recipe? Hook: Dai-Riki 270 Size 6 Bead: Plastic to size (you can use metal but it already sinks like a rock) Lead: .015 15-20 wraps Thread: Black Tail: Olive Rubber (mine was left over from a spinner bait) Body: Medium Ultra Wire - Olive (start the tie in on the near side right below the lead and run parallel with the hook. Need a long piece.) Segmenting: Medium Ultra Wire - Black (start the tie in the same but on the other side. The goal is to flatten the profile.) Wing Case: Cream/White Chewy Skin (sorry lost the color name) Legs: red/brown and grizzly hackle Thorax: Pheasant Tail Ice Dub Tip: Fold the legs in half and tie in a loop. Then after completing the fly cut the loop and size accordingly. Tip: Leave a small space between the thorax dubbing and the bead to tie in everything.
stlfisher Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Nice catch Mic. Always a blast to catch a Cat on fly rod!
mic Posted October 1, 2014 Author Posted October 1, 2014 Nice catch Mic. Always a blast to catch a Cat on fly rod! Yea, this is my third on a fly rod. Always blows my mind. Mike
stlfisher Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I have caught a decent amount on my fly rod...all accidently of course. I have caught two on Wolly Bugger...that was odd. My buddy catches them on a trout park gut fly....at a local pond....bunches of them.
Wayne SW/MO Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Now how does that big cat prove your point? You have to catch a bushel basket load of panfish Mic, not of cats, to qualify. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
ness Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Wasn't gonna say it...partially because I didn't t want to bust your bubble, partially because I didn't want to agree with Wayne on anything. But.... That ain't a panfish, bro. And it's purple. And there's only one of them. And there isn't a hook-in-mouth shot to (kinda) verify that your fly was THE fly. I regret to inform you your application for 'best all around panfish fly' has been denied. Better luck next time. Ps: I do like the fly though John
