NoLuck Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/wild-game-deer-venison-condors-meat-lead-ammunition-ban/ http://www.abcbirds.org/abcprograms/policy/toxins/lead-fact-sheet.html Here are two articles that took me 30 seconds to find. Neither one proves anything in relations to hunters using lead bullets and losing game causing death to other wildlife in a substantial capacity. Cars are more likely to kill wildlife than a bullet left in a unrecovered game animal. Does it raise lead levels?? Sure it does. But not to the levels that do harm to wildlife associated with single projectile hunting guns. How many people do you know that hot lead poisoning from eating wild game their whole life. I know of ZERO. And that includes a lot of people that eat wild game consistently. It may raise their lead blood levels but it doesn't kill them. Geeesh people will buy anything they are told by media. Learn to think for yourselves.
Members Tim McDougald Posted October 15, 2014 Members Posted October 15, 2014 Took about five minutes searching google to find evidence to the contrary. The most relevant is to this https://www.peregrinefund.org/subsites/conference-lead/2008PbConf_Proceedings.htm conference on the subject. The papers are available for free download. The impact of lead on wildlife is widely studied and there is an abundant literature on the subject. An interesting tidbit, peak seasons for lead poisoning and mortality from lead poisoning occur during the hunting season. Also, contrary to previous statements, there are quite a few autopsies relating animal death to lead poisoning and lead ammunition.
Flysmallie Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 There you guys go again. Clouding up a perfectly good debate with facts.

The only ones dying of lead poisoning are the ones that got it introduced at 3000fps. With the exception of a very few. It's all mostly anti-hunting agenda. I work around lead all the time. I'm familiar with its dangers. But hyperbole over it being introduced by hunters shooting single projectile guns is absurd. I'm done here. You people believe what they are telling you. I know BS when I hear it.
Members Tim McDougald Posted October 15, 2014 Members Posted October 15, 2014 Some of those studies referred to mammals. Further searching yields studies deer, moose, puma and bear. It is important to note that in a lot of these studies the animals involved had their lead levels mentioned in the wild and lead can have pathological effects at lower levels. Most of the studies I am familiar with come from various state DNR's and are focused on dealing with the problem so that hunting can continue or from researchers who have a long standing interest in the subject. Since I don't know the "they" people you are referencing I have no choice but to set ideology aside and accept the empirical research on the subject. To each their own I guess...
