Interesting that a Timber company would want the land

Interesting that a Timber company would want the land

Not surprising to me at all. You notice how much they get for a little bundle of firewood around there ?

You could buy a piece of land, do some clearing, and cover your mortgage by selling the firewood.

I'm sure they have the equipment to produce a mountain of those little bundles in no time.

If you go back to Sam Welch's time and look at where the park has gone since he and JR were bestest buddies it stats making sense. It's just getting worse from the canoe rentals to the ban on other otfitters coming into the park to building units now directly across from the spring. I'm afraid it won't be too many years and there will be units across from the Nature center.

Rogers has managed to keep the concession for 30+ years which seems strange given it is, or was, bid on ever few years. Virtually every inprovement in the park in the last 30+ years has put money in JR's pocket, enough to buy up other properties around the park.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Does the guy even fish anymore ?

I took his 2-day casting class...let's see... 33 years ago (Wow that's scary).

I forget what it cost but I remember feeling that it wasn't worth it afterwards.

Bob Gaston (who actually fishes btw) helped my casting more in 10 minutes out in his parking lot for free PLUS he fed me and taught me some great fly tying tricks and fishing techniques that I still use today.

Ness, read wrench's post. You'll figure it out.

Hell, I read it. That's why I asked.

In the mid 80's a clerk in the supers office told a friend of mine that the bid that year was headed toward someone else and that Roger's was alerted and reduced his bid a 1/2% under. I didn't know the clerk, but I do believe my friend and he had faith in the women's information. But it's hearsay.

Surely that can't be Wayne. He is just an honest business man. In order to stay in the position he is in for as long as he has, there has to be some underhanded dealings going on. Something needs to change and not for putting more money in his pockets.

I did some research on the new owner at Circle J. Found an article in Timberline Magazine from 2010. Looks like he, his mom (70 ish) and girlfriend run a big logging out fit up north west of Hannibal in Scotland County. Sounds like a pretty straight forward hardworking guy that doesn't take off much to have any R&R, "He tries to take at least three weekends, around the holidays of summer, to travel to the Lake of the Ozarks resort area in the southwestern part of the state." The mag in 2010 said he is owner/operator of a family cattle operation as well.

With a $300,000 bill to the Feds and $415,000 debt for the land I doubt he is going to make it into a campground that is lucky to even clear the down payment. Plus no time to enjoy or oversee it!! Having a couple new camping facilities opening in the last couple years down there I can't see what another one will bring to the table that is going to draw the clients? Plus there isn't enough timber left on that property to make any money. This guy isn't into firewood cutting and selling by the cord.

This might be interesting to watch!!
