Lancer09 Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Roaring River is extreme wilderness compared to Bennett. That's the reason I'd go to Roaring over Bennett any day of the week.
10pointer Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 I'd rather stay home than go to Bennett...well maybe not to that extreme but Montauk is my hands down choice when it comes to "park" fishing. Bennett has become too commercialized...and I fear the same path for Roaring river which is my #2 park. I dont even want to bring up Meramec. You are right it comes down to money and the "greater good". It really sucks to see roads/cabins/sidewalks/BS built all over the darn place. You can't just get away from the crap...bonehead move after bonehead move commercialization/hatchery/everything. I really hope Montauk wont change the way the others have. Id rather have to walk wooly paths and be further from my vehicle/cabin than feel like I am in the darn city.
brittsnbirds Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 If you all remember back a few years ago we couldn't get a cell signal......ahhhh those were the days. And I use to complain that I couldn't get a signal. Kick myself in the rear. When the cell towers came in so did all the other change. As far as getting away from it all, when I go to BSSP it is like going to the City for me and Danny. I live in the woods, nothing but Hickory trees and deer. A few neighbors (some pSSX me off) but not too many. Danny (my cuz) he lives on the old farm that I grew up on and has hundreds of acres to jack with. For us it is usually crowded. Sometimes we will catch it right during the week. Upstream don't waste your time on RRSP. That is one place I will never go back to. Fished it during my college years when I was going to school down that way. Went a few years ago on the way back from Santa Fe. Have no desire to return. Montauk is the best, just a little too far for 3 day trip.
mic Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 I can't make it down... but could someone bring up: I would like them to do something to improve the lower water in section 3 between the last "hole" and the bridge. There is a lot of stream there that is just full of grass. The need to narrow it or something. Seems like a lot of wasted steam.
mic Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Try Meramec in the off season. Completely different place. I'd rather stay home than go to Bennett...well maybe not to that extreme but Montauk is my hands down choice when it comes to "park" fishing. upstream Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 I can go to Herculanium and fish Joacham creek just the same as the Maramac State Park

Yeah, Dog forbid there be a place where fish could hide and aquatic bugs could thrive.
Gavin Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Bennett sucks. Might as well put up a golf course within the park boundary. Would not take much effort to add a golf course. Looks like one already.
