It was a tough one for me, started about 10 AM and fished until 4 PM, just to catch 2 bass and one walleye. One bass was about 3 lbs., the other was a 14" smallie. Had quite a few chasers today, had 5 bass chase the jerkbait to the boat, and a couple chase a spinner bait. Must not have liked the colors or sizes I was throwing. I think next time out I may try a shad rap, or some smaller jerk baits. Might have to start poking around with the Ned a bit also.

The few fish I did find were 2/3 of the way back in coves with some shad around.

Water temps 52-53.

What combination of water color and available light to like to use TR Shad color? Do you throw it more when you expect really aggressine fish? More if you are around smallies?

I generally have colors that I like for sun vs clouds and super clear water vs dingy water.

It is surprizing to me how many walleye eat a tube or hula grub.

The water is stained where I was fishing yesterday, so I decided on the more visible color. I like to throw the ghost colors in clear water. Not many smallies in the White channel like you see down lake - I wish there were more.

Yeah they seem to like it for some reason. They like the Ned rig also. I keep expecting to hook a big wallie one of these days on a jerk bait.

Ohh, I have definitely caught walleye on jerkbaits, but I've caught way more than I would expect on tubes. At this point, I expect to catch everything that swims on the Ned.

A few years ago I was fishing with my buddy Jeb over on Beaver, it was early spring and I was throwing a jerk bait. I had just caught a nice 3-4 lb. walleye, threw back into the same spot, worked the bait back to the boat, paused it right at the side of the boat, and that bait suddenly disappeared, saw the front portion of the fish, I'm pretty sure it was a very big walleye - but I'll never know as the line parted with I lifted my rod to set the hook. Must have been a fray in the line or something.

not much wind yesterday. a friend of mine fished in rock creek and got one keeper on a long bill rebel. guess the weather and wind has to be nasty to have a good bite. always seems that way at least.

If it's any consolation, I caught that one for you. 11lb, right at the boat a half second before I lifted to recast. 3AM in thick fog and pitch black. Scared the bejesus out of me after a whole night of no bites. I just lifted the rod and grabbed the net. Took a year off my future.

Oh wait, you said Beaver...

Wrong fish. Carry on.

I can't dance like I used to.
