Bird Watcher Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 have you tried contacting MotorGuide? I know the Xi5 does have a reflash available So, I called Motorguide. Apparently, my motor was right in the range of motors that had problems with the gps. They determined this by looking up the serial number. they sent a reflash kit to me, it took about two days to receive. I finally had a chance to try it out this weekend and it appears to have corrected my problem, well mostly. There are still little bugs with the autopilot but I can live with them since it now is back to mostly doing what I ask it to do. Thanks for the tip.
Smalls21 Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 no problem, that's what the forum is about. Helping the next person, Paying it Forward if you will.
grizwilson Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 I am clueless, my TM just broke so looking at replacing with one with "anchor" ability. I am running Humminbird 798 front, 1197 console interlinked both with their own gps puck. Some say the motorguide will not work with bird??? I doubt if I want to spend the money for the contour system, but I crappie fish brush mostly and anchor appears handy. Thoughts suggestions appreciated. g “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted April 18, 2015 Author Posted April 18, 2015 I love my xi5. I have no experience with the min Kota but I can't imagine it be much different. I have read hundreds of reviews and it is a toss up. I have heard the anchor mode is more accurate on the MG and I will say it is pretty dead on. Since you already have the birds the minn Kota would be a better option. They def won't work with the MG. probably can't go wron either way
