Bird Watcher Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 I have no idea where the Kansas City Star falls politically. I don't know if they lean left or right. Perhaps someone on here might know a little more than me about that.
awhuber Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Clearly this article was written to put MDC is the worse light, although they couldn't help but tout MDC's positive efforts BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY! MDC could do a better job- sure - but these legislators should concentrate on their own wasteful spending before pointing fingers. This article is from 09/26/2004 updated in may of this year.
Old plug Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 I fo along with Quill and Lilly on this. Onthe other hand I have not seen a conservation agent on LOZ doing checks in at least 8-10 yrs. If there was ever a place that need of it its LOZ. As far as buying food, seminars and all tat sort of rubbish. Sorry to say I am 100 % sure it is true. Loose spending of taxpayers money is something that is deeply rooted at all levels of goverment. It is about impossible to eraditate. It is a combination of legislative actions, agency leadership, and politics. I could tell you a few stories would make you so angry you might have a heart attack. I certainly will not start that on a public forum.
Greasy B Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 No doubt the MDC is a wasteful cash cow, I'm sure we could all think of better things to throw money at. The state legislature does not have a say in how MDC is funded or managed and it ranks as one of the top of agencies of its kind in the country. It would interesting to compare the ranking of other state responsibilities that the legislature does have control of funding and management. Where does Missouri rank in health, education and infrastructure? His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974

I'm sure there is wasteful spending, but that happens in every aspect of the local, state, and federal government. If we looked at other facets of our government I guarantee you we'd find a lot more wasteful spending that what we see with MDC. I also love the way the writer pokes fun at publications like "Tricking Trout" and a recipe for Parmesian Squirrel recipe. Class act.
ness Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 1st clue, for me, was state auditor Claire McCaskill.....Sure coulda changed that to Senator and kept me going. Some things never change. John
fishinwrench Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 The thing that still FLABBERGASTS me is that IF their funding was to be cut (whether partially or completely) they would start throwing up gates. That is like threatening to lock your parents out of their house because after 30 years they are getting too old and broke to feed you and do your laundry.
ness Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 "The department's bountiful funds also allow it to lavish perks on state residents that FLABBERGAST conservation officials outside Missouri. For example, each year the agency spends $200,000 to give 18,000 students “positive fishing experiences.” Employees will locate ponds for school class trips and, if needed, even stock them with hybrid sunfish and channel catfish purchased from commercial sources. If students need fishing gear, the agency provides that, too. Other states have fishing events for children, but not like that. In Minnesota, Pengelly said, game employees stock a fishing pond for children at Cabela's in the spring and stock one for handicapped children at a hatchery. “But it's just one fishing day,” he said." (Emphasis added). Wheres the flabbergastation? John
fishinwrench Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Today's program was brought to you by the word "Flabbergast".
