gramps50 Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 I found this feather out in the front yard a while back. From the size of it I'm guessing it came from a hawk or owl. My question does it look like it would be of use for fly tying? The feather fibers off the quill are stuck together and it appears to be natural. The shorter fibers on the one side appear to be natural too.

Lancer09 Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 Without a matching pair it wont be of a whole lot of use. you could use it for something like a shellback but it wont have any mottling like a turkey feather will. unless there are biots, and I dont think there are, toss it or keep it, up to you. Hope that helps!
Wayne SW/MO Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 You could use it for tails. As said, you need the opposite feather for wngs. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
fishinwrench Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 The biots on a natural goose feather are awesome, I use them on a couple of productive patterns. And the other side is good for wing cases. Never throw anything away! laker67 1
laker67 Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 Looks buzzard to me. would work the same as goose but more twang.
