As we are in the dead of winter I am thinking about when to take the boat for Spring, Summer, and Fall trips. As I work outside everyday and only do outdoor activities the sun takes a beating on myself. I (hopefully yourself) try to get as much sun protection as possible so I tend to wear these two shirts over and over. I only have two short sleeve button down UPF shirts I was thinking about getting a couple long sleeve shirts. I was wondering if anyone else wears UPF clothing or not? I personally love my shirts due to they are light weight and breath well. The sun is a killer especially to us on boats considering there isn't any hiding from the sun usually. I am just wondering if anyone else uses them and if so do you have multiple brands? Which ones do you like the most? Which are the lightest?

Myself both of my shirts are made by Habit and I like both of them.

The wife is a two time cancer survivor so she prefers me to wear sun protection when we are outdoors.Seemed to have most of the major brands both with and without a collar.Have worn Columbia for years and in the last couple of years tried Simms,Under Armour and Patagonia shirts. If you can wear enough protection around your head and neck area the pullover shirts in the above brands are really light. They don't have the pockets but do a good job keeping the sun rays at bay.I haven't paid a big price for these shirts either as you can find them online at great prices from places like Sierra Trading Post. You can even find shirts with good UPF ratings that are treated to repel mosquitoes that worked great several years ago when we fished the San Juan River in New Mexico

I am totally into this. So much better than having to apply sunscreen. I don't care if It's a little warmer in the summer with a long sleeve shirt on, the materials they make them out of now are so light weight I hardly know I'm wearing long sleeves. I have several of the Columbia button down fishing shirts and I just got a long sleeve Marmott shirt made out of the stretchy wicking tech material with 50 UPF for Christmas. I also got some Simms Solar Flex gloves because the tops of my hands get the sun the worst it seems. I might even look into the buffs that have UPF to wear on my face, although I always wear a wide brimmed Columbia fishing hat that has 50 UPF also so my face usually is ok.

My only long sleeves one is made by simms. I love it. I bought it in a fly shop in Colorado so I'm sure I paid too much for it but it was a great buy.

Never got into the gloves. My hands don't bother me too much, but that doesn't mean they don't need protection. I'm sure the gloves are equally awesome.

I have been wearing them for quite a few years now. Close to 10 years now I think.

I like the Patagonia pull overs and Exoficio button downs.

I have a couple that are bleached out on the shoulders so that gives you an idea of how much exposure they've had.

I also wear sun gloves, wide brim hat and gators for my neck.

When I first started wearing the wide brimmed hat my buddies were dogging me.

Now we all seem to be wearing them.

Wear a buff around the neck and face that is a brown trout pattern and really get some strange looks from fellow fishermen. It is a little warm with a moustach and goatee that I wear but I prefer it to all the sunscreen options.

I've had 3 of 5 instances where I've had moles removed that were cancerous. Cut out and no other treatment. Luckily, they were caught early. Because of this, I have to be checked every 3 months.

I pretty much cover up all year long. Columbia, BPS brand (?), and Cabela's brand is what I usually purchase. Long pants, long sleeve shirts, gloves, neck gator, hat. and sunscreen.

It sucks when its 90-100 degrees, but, it's now a way of life. The alternative sucks even worse. A good friend just recently finished up a good year long chemo treatment for a mole that was either stage 2 or 3 melanoma. It was pretty rough on her physically and emotionally.

So, do yourself a favor, wear the UPF clothing, but more important, get checked at least once a year, maybe twice if you are exposed to the sun a lot.

Yeah I ordered a few long sleeves last night and 2 sets of pants. I'm not the biggest hat person so I'll still have to do sunscreen on the head and neck.

I much prefer long sleeved UPF shirts to sun screen even in very hot weather. My last batch of shirts are Columbia, they aren't bad for the price. During the hottest weather I repeatedly soak my shirts in the water so I can get the cooling effect of evaporation. When dripping wet the long sleeves tend to sag and often catch my rod handles when I cast, its terribly irritating. I'm due for an upgrade this year but I need tighter fitting sleeves.
