J-Doc Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 You're on a roll this morning Champ. :-) Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
dtrs5kprs Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 The zman keeper works fairly well from what I have been told by folks who have used it. I still think you would have some issues with it, especially as the zinkerz begins to take up water. Also will tear the body eventually. With a solid color you could just rotate it, with a laminate you would end up with the light side up. Being an open hook it may not last long enough for either of those things to be a problem. There are a lot of folks running open hooks, but mostly in a smaller and lighter size that will straighten.
dtrs5kprs Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I appreciate your attention to detail Dave and that you are willing to try the different options, but I'm gonna throw 1/2 a Zinker 100% of the time. I'll save my silly Shadzzz for a drop shot or the garbage can. I will use some of the other Z Man stuff other ways though. I get it. It is hard to put down.
Pepe Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Has anyone observed the effect of a hot nail on a Zinker? I am wondering about making a bit of a channel for the collar.

I know it does not melt, mend with heat, or boil to straighten flappers worth a rip. Not much to lose by trying. Have tried to use a candle to tweak colors, etc, like you would with regular plastic. That does not work at all. Can get both ends hot, but does not like to stick together. That actually bodes well for the nail idea. Or you could just ditch the collar...

If you go back to the original post on this thread, you will see an idea that will also work on a collared jighead. slice the top of the Zinker lengthwise, slide your hook down and out, and then put glue on each side of the little "sandwich" squeeze it together and snug it up to the head. wet your fingers first and keep an old towel handy to wipe the excess glue that will get on your fingers when you press the sandwich together. Or, if you have the cut and cracked fingers like Donna, just leave it on there!

I try to have my stuff less wet when gluing it, but the Loc Tite still works on damp things. crazy. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

Only thing different when gluing it wet is it will get a little white discoloration where the glue is applied. Same happens if you glue one up and fish it before it completely dries. Actually looks kind of neat, sort of like a sick fish. Similar to the milky effect we try for with smoke grubs. Pretty sure Mike is trying to make the elaztech eat his collared worm heads. It is a challenge making elaztech eat anything larger than a wire. Tends to spit it back at you.
