Wayne SW/MO Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 I don't think OU ever thought he would play. There were some perks for the sooners though. Having someone that talented on the scout team was good for the team, giving DGB a chance to fly right and allowing Pinkel to enforce disapline without really harming a younster made it all good. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Wayne SW/MO Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 I have a feeling he'll get drafted by the Los Angeles Rams... You're probably rightt. He will be is hitting stride when they move nto the new stadium. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
ozark trout fisher Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 I agree...no loss for OU. They tried to get him on the field, but they new he was gone after this year...this shouldn't come as a surprise to them. It's no loss on the field. A huge hit to the perception of the program, though. Combine that with this past season and you have people half seriously talking about Bob Stoops being on the hot seat. Granted, it has a lot more to do with the latter, but the former isn't doing anything to help him. All major football programs have their dirty laundry probably about to the same degree. We all know that, if we're paying attention. But, bogus as it might be, perception is still huge and this was all risk and very little chance of reward for OU.
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 OTF, so you are in the long harsh punishment league? I don't recall Pinkle hitting him on the first "crime". What is wrong with OU is Mikey and anyone who doesn't believe that tell me why he had to come back to brother when AZ fired him. OU needed 11 points overall to win 3 of their losses. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Flysmallie Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 A huge hit to the perception of the program, though. Maybe to you but I don't here that any where else. I grew up about 70 miles south of OU and still have a lot of family and friends there. There perception will never change. EVER. They aren't like Mizzou or Arkansas or many other college fans. They do not waiver. Not saying that they are always happy but they are always dedicated to the program. If you never had the chance in your life to experience football in the south then you can really never understand. I played HS ball at a little school that regularly had more people in attendance at the Friday night football games that greatly exceeded the population of the town. And we sucked. Football is viewed differently in southern OK and TX. It just is. Â Â

To take a player who has had multiple run ins with the law and known drug use does not promote a positive image or what is in the best interest of the collage or community. Wayne SW/MO Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 I have a hard time believing that anyone would think that DGB wasn't going to enter the draft as soon as he was eligable. You don't even have to go to college to play in the NFL. Stoops knew he wouldn't play, Pinkle knew he wouldn't play. DGB didn't have numerous run ins either, he was just one more teenager who had his head up his butt. More inportant he needed to stay in school and OU offered that to him in exchange for challenging his DB's in practice. It makes no sense to send a kid back to the ghetto over his slips. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
