Members Alaskman35 Posted January 13, 2015 Members Posted January 13, 2015 I will be renting a house boat for 4 days and would love some General hints, tips, tricks for locating some fish. I'm from Alaska and have lots of experience fishing, just not a lake like Bull Shoals. I will be bringing my two 3 year old boys and sure would love to get them on some fish. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.
rps Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 On day one, hire Mike Worley, a guide and a contributing member on this forum. A half day or full day trip will put you on fish for your entire trip. If Mike is booked, call Buster Loving. I hope you have a fabulous trip.
Members Alaskman35 Posted January 13, 2015 Author Members Posted January 13, 2015 I will have several poles and gear with me for anything from bass, catfish, blue gill and maybe Walley. I have a stash of gear I've left at a friends house in Tulsa. I will look into the guides thank you RPS.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 13, 2015 Root Admin Posted January 13, 2015 Yes- Mike would be a good resource. Phil Stone would be another, especially in June. Good walleye month. And you'll have the next few months to glean information off this forum. Lower BS doesn't get alot of fishing pressure nor a lot of coverage on the internet
rps Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I forgot to mention Phil Stone. Yes, another good alternative.
Members Alaskman35 Posted January 14, 2015 Author Members Posted January 14, 2015 Could you explain the difference between upper and lower BS?
Amery Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I have twins also. Why would you leave Alaska during your very limited summer?
Members Alaskman35 Posted January 14, 2015 Author Members Posted January 14, 2015 Happy Wife happy life.. I'll be back just in time for all the good salmon fishing anyways. So best of both worlds.
duckydoty Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Welcome to the forum. I'll be heading back up to alaska about that time frame for the summer. The difference between upper and lower is....lower Bull Shoals is a typical lake while the upper section is more like a large River with moving currents and not near the depth as the lower lake. Ham Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 87 miles from BSL dam to Powersite dam on the upper end. The upper river is shallower and will warm faster in spring and cool faster in fall. It also tends to have more stain to the water. The lower main lake can be VERY clear, but there are always exceptions. You should certainly be able to put your boys on some panfish like Green Sunfish and Bluegill fishing the bluff walls. I would expect you to be able to catch some smallmouth on main lake points as well. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
