We caught 147 smallies & goggle eyes from a 1.5 mile stretch of creek last summer. A third of them from 1 pool. It took 6hrs for us to land that many. I'm convinced you can catch every single fish from every spot if you slow down.

To put that in perspective, I've read the Agfc estimates round 300 smallmouth per mile if river in the EP in Arkansas stretch. That crazy good effecient, almost scary. Current river where I fish mostly I would say has more than that per mile I would think?

There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!

What's even crazier, that was a very popular stretch of river that gets pounded by drunken floaters.

It isn't almost scary, IT IS ABSOLUTELY SCARY. If the meathog crowd buys into this sytem, they can catch and keep a ton of fish.

kinda like the impact of snagging those flatheads gathered up in deep wintering holes. A few individuals can degrade things for everyone else.

I guess just enjoy it while it lasts.

Amen thithter. It kind of worries me too about how good it works and if one were into fish meat, then look out.

20150126_173327_zpsuouhhfmv.jpgThis is the pale imitation of the real thing that I have been fishing with. This particular jig head and little piece of elaztech has only caught something like 50 or so fish, mostly smallmouth a few goggleye. Sorry about that Ham, Chief and Al, they are goggleye to this old hillbilly. Actually probably mostly sorry to Dave. No disrespect, really looking forward to some even better jig heads.

NO worries on my end Rick. I call fish all sorts of names that locals wouldn't recognize. And no worries on that jighead. It worked for you, That's the most important thing. I'm confident that you are going to love Dave's jighead, but whatever works for you is fine by me.

I agree

Wouldn't worry much about the meat hunters. They are already using live bait and will get theirs regardless. I take care of several who like to kill most of what they catch...pretty frustrating.

Years ago, an old friend complained to me about the otters cleaning out the Piney river goggle eye and brownies. Let me assure you that the otters can make a dent, but the meatheads have a much larger impact.

Nothing wrong with keeping a few crappie, BG, greenies, even occasional goggle eye and the rare deeply hooked small. But it takes a long time to grow good sallies, and I like to catch them too much to kill them!
