merc1997 Bo Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 been out again the last two days, and the bite is still on. yesterday did not produce many keeps, but lots of action. today lots of action and 7 keepers all brownies. question for the nedders. i got some strike king zeros, but they sink like a rock. no float to them. i was thinking someone told me the zeros floated. i put a piece in the water without a hook, and it sank. we did catch fish on it, but did just as well with a generic senko. a fat sized crappie tube worked well also, and also a lake fork crappie minnow. i am totally mad though. i had fished with the same 1/8 jig since late this summer, and a darn bass broke me off!! here is a pic of linda with a sample of what we have been catching. bo
J-Doc Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Beautiful fish. Smallmouth are awesome. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
Champ188 Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Nice brownie, indeed. Donna and I are headed up tomorrow. Got new Ned heads in the mail today and am ready to get busy.
motoman Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Nice report bo and great fish for Linda! - Take that zero and stretch it a few times until the salt starts flying out of it(caution, there's a lot in there and it can make a mess); and the color lightens a pinch and it will REALLY soften up! Careful stretching it; go easy on it or they can start to tear or break a bit. Especially if they're a bit older of a pack. I prefer the zeros and Zinkerz over any other Zman baits. Higher salt content makes them even softer; I seem to catch more with them for that reason.........at least I think that's why!:-) - Then soak it overnight weighted down in some water to get the rest of the salt out. It should be super buoyant then. If not; at least it'll be crazy soft! - Then take them out in the morning and just press them hard in a paper towel to quickly dry them and you're ready for action! 96 CHAMP Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Nice fish you guys have been catching, hope you guys have a good day tomorrow, never have used the Ned rig yet but have all the tackle for it, need to put down old reliable baits I have been using and start fishing it next time I am down
dtrs5kprs Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Bo, Doug hit it right. Give it a good stretching to get the salt loosened up. He may also have caught me running mine under the resort faucet. Older ones will be softer and float more. Nice brownies.

If I woulda spotted you tinkering with baits in the sink; I woulda certainly kept my mouth shut. That's a sure sign you were conjuring a little magic. And at times like that, I learned from watching Gilligans Island......."mums the word!";-)
