Members EastTnAngler Posted January 24, 2015 Members Posted January 24, 2015 I will be at Ft Leonard Wood for the next few months and am looking to do some fishing. I mostly fish for smallmouth, but like to go after largemouth, trout and crappie also. I don't have a vehicle here so my transportation options are limited. Let me know if anyone fishes around the area or has any connections. Thanks!
fishinwrench Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Bunch of fishing nuts at Ft.Lostinthe Woods. You should have no trouble at all finding a ride.
moguy1973 Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 There are a few good smallmouth rivers and creeks that run through the base itself. The Big Piney River and the Roubidoux Creek to name a few. The base has rules for fishing and areas to fish here: http://www.wood.army.mil/dptm/handf.htm EastTnAngler 1 -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Gavin Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Great fishing near the Fort. Smallmouth on the Gasconade & Big Piney(good bit of the piney runs though the base). Plenty of trout fishing nearby too. You will have a ball if you like to hunt or fish. Not much else to do there. I'm sure that you will find some friends on base with an interest. Good luck to you.
tho1mas Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Most all posts have a Rod & Gun Club - might be a good place to start.
rps Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 My experience there is a bit dated: July through November, 1971. Lots of goggle eye and some decent smallmouth in the Gasconade. I did not fish on post. As a boot camp and AIT trainee, off post was safer.
Members EastTnAngler Posted January 25, 2015 Author Members Posted January 25, 2015 Have done quite a bit of research on the big piney and hoping to check it out. Will have to look into Gasconade. There are also several ponds on the base that look to have some good fishing. Was hoping to fish a lake while I was here. What would be the best one to try? I have heard table rock and lake of the ozarks were good.
