Bitethis Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 I have learned to love centrifugal brakes. They help me avoid birdnest more than mag break systems I have used prior. However, I have been hearing alot about Diawa's Tatula and how advanced the magforce z brake system is. I have a BPS PQ and like it alot. I have been saving up for a year now for the curado I. Im looking for some insight from those wiser than I. I plan on buying another PQ at spring classic, and 1 of the nice reels that people with more money than I have talk about :-)
rps Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 I became disenchanted with the Curado a few alphabet letters ago. E series I think. In the $150 to $190 price range several manufacturers offer great products. Lew's Speed Spool BB1 and Abu Garcia Revo SX Generation 3 are two excellent reels in that price range. One uses a centrifugal brake and the other a mag break.
dtrs5kprs Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Think you can get into a Lews for about the same $ as the Tatula. Love my Daiwa spinning reels, but not wild about the mid-price casting reels. Wouldn't know what to do with a Steez if you gave me one.
Guest Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 the Lews have been on sale at Academy lately, great reel
huntest Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 I am in the process of switching to Lews.....3 baitcasters and 3 spincasters so far....super products...can't say enough good about them. Its pretty amazing how far you can throw a Megabass 110 with their baitcasters.
Members junk fishin Posted January 25, 2015 Members Posted January 25, 2015 Does anybody else have problems with the centrifugal brakes engaging themselves while fishing? Every Pfluegar reel I've ever owned and now my Lew's tournament speed spool will occasionally engage a break on its own while casting.
Members junk fishin Posted January 25, 2015 Members Posted January 25, 2015 And the Revo sx is a great reel. I have a couple and love em. Fish24/7 1
Dutch Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 I know nothing about the first reel listed but I am a Curado fan. I have had them of various versions for about 20 years. I don't have the latest. I have the E and G series. I don't trade up real often but when I do, I have always been able to sell my used ones for the same amount that I paid for them new.
5bites Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 I love love love daiwas mag brake systems. I've tosses a tatula all of a couple times. I know they are very popular. I will say though they have a wider profile so I highly recommend handling them both before deciding. If bigger reels don't bother you then go Daiwa. If they'd release a smaller sized tatula I'd be on one as soon as they came out. Daiwa is missing the boat big time in this department.
Ranger Z22 Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 I am finishing up my changeover from any BPS reels to Lew's Was going to go with the Revo but for me I like the Lew's is the winner, not going to get rid of any Revo's just the new reels will be Lew's. The few BPS reels that I had just cannot last if you fish a lot. z22 Champ188 1
