Smalls21 Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 I'm trying to "tune" my jerkbaits. someone please correct me if i'm wrong, don't you normally want the bait to sink slowly in a slightly nose down position.
J-Doc Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Not according to Mike McClelland and he's what I would consider a valuable source on jerkbaits. Since he grew up on Beaver and other highland reservoirs. Either slow rise, totally suspeneded and no movement, or fast rise. The fish will tell you which they want. Every once in a while, you may want it to slowly fall nose down but it's more rare I'm told. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
Smalls21 Posted January 27, 2015 Author Posted January 27, 2015 OK that helps! I have CRS so I never remember what they supposed to do.
willyfish Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Mr. McClelland would tell you nose down and perfectly suspended or very slowly sinking, not rising. That's on a 110 in water around 45 degrees. Hooks and split rings to add weight is the key. He grew up on Table Rock, awesome when he won there last year. Champ188 1
OldMillRoad Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 I think it just depends on what the fish want, time of year, etc. During a shad kill I think they prefer a bait that falls slowly, at least I have had luck on ones that do. During the spring and summer I think they prefer it to rise. Its great trying to figure out what a critter with a brain the size of a nickel wants to eat.
abkeenan Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 I prefer my baits to suspend perfectly. McStick 110's new out of the box have always done that for me which is one of the reasons I like them so much. No tinkering, no screwing with them.....my kinda bait. They will suspend either level or nose down which I like. I also throw them on 10lb fluoro which sinks so depending on how long I pause they may sink slowly. Works for me. Champ188 1

Expect you will have a lot of time to throw it in March too. Won't have to bother watching that nasty NCAA tmt.

Will bring the Morton out in the boat with me to rub into my wounded thumbs. How dare you Dave! Just stay in the Ned Threads where you belong. I see a groundhog relocation program happening very soon in Lansing, KS. Big ones too. Huge.
OldMillRoad Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Why would any Mizzou fan miss following their team in the NCAA tournament in March? Mizzou Wresting is currently ranked third in the nation. Is there some other tournament going on that I am not aware of? How's that Jayhawk wrestling team doing this year?
