trythisonemv Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 According to the mdc website Capps is stocked six times a year. It doesn't specify when though. I know it was done in November because I caught over twenty in like two hours. Would figure they do it every two months.
ollie Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 It's hit and miss I can tell you that! "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
trythisonemv Posted January 31, 2015 Author Posted January 31, 2015 Lol yep! I did see a monster lurking under the bridge by the mill. Woukdnt take a thing. Waited for an hour he hit one stone fly then vanished. I'd say four pounds at least.
jtram Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 First of all there aren't any monsters in the park, trust me it was probably wishful thinking;). Secondly, is it just me or has this year been terrible on capps? I haven't fished it as many times this year as I normally do but it gas truly kicked my butt this year, not even seeing the fish in between that i typically do. Does it seem tougher than normal to the rest of you?
ollie Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Go into the Capps archive and check out my Super Bowl Sunday report I gave a couple of years back jtram. Now I will admit this year has been SUPER tough for me fishing Capps. Biggest brown this year for me was a 17" and then the rest were just there so to speak. I do fish this creek lots and I mean about every weekend this time of the year. This year also marks the first time down there I have ever been skunked as well. So yea, it has been tough! fishinwrench Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 So do you deduct from that, that they are NOT stocking or stocking fewer ?
jtram Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 O ya ollie, i know what is in that creek. I have yet to break 18 there but sat afternoon i hooked up with what we will call a "very" solid fish One that trythisonemv saw im pretty sure, but as usual i saw him eat and broke him off promptly. i have been skunked the last 3 times down which although im not a great fisherman, is starting to make me question my having fly rods! Jk but wrench i think its probably stocked the same i have just hit it at all the wrong times. By the way what are they doing above the dam? Cleaning out the lake?
ollie Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I dunno about the Mill pond. That has been drained like that now for over a month. My guess is they are cleaning out all the silt since below there is nothing now but silt! wrench, I think they have been stocking fewer and I don't think they stock the amount of times they say they do. I'll have to check with Rick over at the MDC office in Neosho and see what he says. Chief Grey Bear Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I think they drained that pond back in October.
