denjac Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Great read. Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. For a nation to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle." ~ Winston Churchill ~
Bill Babler Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Read that a couple of weeks ago. Very nice read. Nothing is forever and it really shows you that you had better take advantage of those opportunities that are presented to you and thank the Lord for them. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
dtrs5kprs Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Many thanks for the link Phil. I knew Ned was at the show with them, and was writing a piece, but had not read it. Interesting stuff.
Guest Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 According to Dion, his mother used to fish with his father with some regularity, but nowadays Stella is the family’s chief executive officer, planner, accountant, chauffeur, and chef. Dion and Guido say their days would be in a constant state of disarray without her guidance and helping hands. I actually witnessed this firsthand at Pickwick in 2007. My buddy is Guido's coangler that day & is waiting at the ramp for them to show up. All the Hibdon ladies bail out of the Suburban and start prepping the boat for launch, pulling straps, motor toter, unhooked the front, wiped down the boat & helped Guido into the boat. then they backed the boat down the ramp & Guido slid the Ranger into the water. After the tournament day was over, the ladies came back & pulled the boat out. It was very orchestrated & professional. Ive never seen anything like that since. Guido was like that cool old grandpa that liked to smoke cigarettes & tell good stories. The fishing world needs more like the Hibdon family.
Old plug Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I do not undrstand the Coast Guard not allowing them a license to fuide because of diabetes. Kiving here in rown with them I am going to ask one of there closet friends about this. It soundslike a basis for a suit to me.

Plug, I know the logic behind it, but it is flawed, and grinds my gears as well (being insulin dependent myself for 21 years). Really think it should be covered by the ADA laws, and could be actionable with the right attorney.
Old plug Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Dave I believe it is covered. I was in the government for over 40 years. Part of that time in management positions. As to the point you and I are discussing. As I recall they taught us that discrimination in conditions of employment regarding handicapped based solely on the handicap without a attempted at reasonable accommodation was unlawful. My view is it is a condition of employment.Though not directly. So a accommodation would be warranted. If I recall right(after 25 yrs away from this stuff) that is just about what ADA says. Deon fishes a lot in the Gravois. I see him buzzing around here every now and then. So it would seem to me he is certainly capable preforming the duties of a guide. I think you can maybe understand how incrimination can change a persons outlook. I fought battles with it from both sides. I believe it is one of the most destructive things in our society. Would love to see the court argument a good civil rights lawyer would make about this.

It is also a truly archaic view of diabetes, not at all in line with modern medical standards.
Iclass Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Didn't they have a double decker of sorts boat trailer back in the early 90s? Pretty sure I ran into them while gassing up several years ago, awesome guys! Seemed like they were more excited someone knew them than I was getting to meet them, talked for so long I was late to school
