Champ188
After a phone conversation Donna had this morning, I'm compelled to spread the word among the bass anglers/boat owners here that it seems we are not welcome at Roaring River Resort & RV Park (no affiliation with Roaring River State Park). We've been looking for a place close to Big M to stay for this year's USA Bassin' tournaments. Being located on 112 just north of the trout park and appearing clean and modern on their website, we contacted the resort. Donna spoke to a fellow and gave him the dates we needed for the season, who said he'd speak with the owner and get back with us. He did get back with us --- with the message that the owner "wishes to decline your business" --- that he does not want a boat parked next to the rooms and he has no other external power. Combined with a nonhelpful and basically condescending attitude from the messenger boy on the phone, I knew of no other way to take that but as an insult. So, please ... unless you're confident that you measure up to these folks' standards ... make sure you pass on by Roaring River Resort. You may not "qualify" to stay there. Meanwhile, I can vouch that grubby ol' bass guys and gals are always welcome at White River Lodge, which is far snazzier than the place at Roaring River. Rant over. Smiling now. Bird Watcher
Weird. I have friends that stay there all summer long with their families. They love the ownership. Maybe the owner is a member here and has been reading your posts the last month? ness
evilcatfish
Doesn't want a boat parked next to the rooms? No external power? What sort of place is this? Maybe they are hosting a nudist convention that weekend don't think ya'll would mesh well... (only reason I can think they would decline perfectly good cash)
dtrs5kprs
Wow. I could understand an explanation about space or power concerns, but to straight out decline? Strange way to do business.
WettinLine
I'm guessing the ownership doesn't want to hear about the Ned Rig so they put a ban on bass boats. evilcatfish, Quillback and Champ188
Champ188
I'm guessing it wouldn't do any good to try and bribe him with a couple of pre-Rapala Warts. And yes, Dave, to just flat-out say "we wish to decline your business" is just, as you put it, strange.

No disrespect to other fly fishers intended.
Champ188
Not a thing said about trout guys. I have several good friends who trout fish and would love to do so myself if I had the time. Not about that at all.
dtrs5kprs
Just one of those things. I used to make reservations for my Iowa club when they came to MO lakes. Once in a while I would run into a place that did not think they could handle the plug ins, or parking, but they were always decent about it. More in the way of not wanting to have us disappointed or have problems when we arrived. God bless the trout crowd. Less people competing with us for bass. Not sure I would hang "elitist" on a state trout park though. ness
Jeff Tief
Owners have been gone for 3 months and have a family member that has been running it thru the winter months.Don't understand either not wanting the business-they don't have but about half of the resort open. Not a big place parking wise for trailers, etc. olbasser
